Question about 1991 Honda Civic

I have a leaking radiator but I'm almost one hundred percent certain it's leaking from one of the hoses. I'm not sure which pipes are the radiator hoses. I've got a civic 1991 auto, eg3 or ed6. Can't remember as one is my old car. How many radiator hoses are there and where are they located? A diagram would be great! Thanks!

Thermostat gasket blown


Is it all one piece, the outlet pipe and the t-stat housing? The gasket goes on the bottom of the housing where it mates to the engine. If the coolant is leaking from the bottom of the housing, that would require a new gasket. If coolant is leaking where the radiator hose connects to the pipe, have you tried tightening the hose clamp?
If the outlet pipe and housing are separate, there may be an O-ring seal between them. You may want to pull off the radiator hose and check if the pipe is so badly corroded and rusted that it cannot seal anymore, or may have a hole in it, especially if it is thin metal.

My Honda prelude starting to smoke yesterday. I believe it is steam. I saw green liquid on certain parts under the hood. It wasn't a lot but when I came to a stop and turned off the car it was noticeable....


i recommend you don't drive to far and get a mechanic too check it out as you risk overheating and blowing the head gasket which is expensive. You need to get the cooling system pressure checked too find the leak and rectify it. hopefully just a hose but possably a water pump.

Filled the overflow bottle twice and it is empty again


check your oil, is it over full or milky colored? bad head gasket or cracked head. If oil checks fine you have a bad intake gasket. Also see if you can smell a sweet scent from the exhaust pipe which also indicates a bad intake. Otherwise check for leaks on all hoses that pertain to the coolant system including the heater hoses and check the radiator itself as there could be a small trickle leak and it gets burned off by the heat of the radiator so its best to check when engine is at running temp and as soon as you shut off motor. One thing you dont mention is how often did you have to fill the reservoir the three times? every day, once a week ,every three hours? this would also help with the diagnosis

How to Fix an Engine Coolant Leak Your car's coolant system consists of various components. I need to find a guide to replacing the radiator in a 1997 Volvo S90 w/ automatic transmission.

Radiator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Perform this work only on a cold engine.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Set the heater control to MAX heat.
  3. Remove the expansion tank cap.
  4. Place a suitable drain pan into position. Open the **** on the right-hand side of the engine block. Fit a hose to the **** to collect the coolant. Open the radiator draincock.
  5. Close the drain cocks when the coolant is completely drained.
  6. Remove the cooling fan.
  7. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
  8. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses

  10. On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines at the radiator. Plug the lines immediately. Catch the spillage from the radiator in a separate pan.

  12. Some vehicles are equipped with a temp sensor on the drivers side top of the radiator, if equipped remove the connector.
  13. Remove the radiator retaining bolts and brackets.

On 850/C70/S70/V70 models, the radiator comes out the bottom of the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Place the radiator into position and install the retaining bolts.
  2. On automatic transmission vehicles, connect the oil cooler lines.
  3. Install the fan and shroud.
  4. Install the lower and upper radiator hoses.
  5. Connect the expansion tank hose. Make sure that the overflow hose is clear of the fan and is free of any sharp bends.
  6. Fill the cooling system through the expansion tank, with a 50 percent antifreeze, 50 percent water solution.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
  9. Bleed the cooling system.
  10. Check for leaks.
  11. Top up the cooling system, as required.
  12. Replace the cap.
  13. Check and top up the automatic transmission fluid level.

Oil hose leak 97 4x4 Blazer


Oil cooler lines that lead to your radiator or to a cooler mounted in front of radiator.The hoses are quick couplers with o-rings so there is no way to tighten. I don't know why they would leek so often but they usualy go bad where the rubber line gets crimped to the steel line.Not sure if you can get a different oil filter block without the oil cooler line hook ups.This way you can eliminate the cooler lines,or remove the quick couplers at both ends of where your cooler lines hook up and just run hydraulic hoses in place of your coller lines.Where i live you can get hydraulic hoses made at hundreds of places but may not be so redily avalible where you are.

Make sure you don not run low on transmission fluid in your transmission. Low transmission fluid will cost you a new transmission. You have the transmission line that connects to the upper passenger side or the radiator and the lower passenger side of the radiator. Determine which line has gone bad and you can buy a rubber transmission line hose at most Auto Parts store like Parts Source. Cut off out the section with a pipe cutter that has corroded through and replace with the transmission hose. Make sure you tell them it's a transmission line hose your looking for and don't use any other hose and double clamp with a compression clamps at ether end. If it's the connection at the radiator that has gone bad, replace that end and do that same as you would to sectioning off the the corroded line and try not to have more then 3 inches of repaired section. What ever you do, do not add any stop leak, this will create problems with the shift solenoids and check valves in your valve body in the transmission causing a transmission replacement soon after adding. Replace thermostat in 2000 ford ranger


the open pipe that you took the hose off of is the thermostat housing, you will need to remove this to reveal the thermostat, make sure you use a new gasket with sealant when reinstalling thermostat housing to prevent leaks and dont over tighten the bolts,run both bolts down as far as you can before final tightning

Coolant leak


Hello **** B. First double check the hose connection for the leak, it can drain to another connection & appear to leak there. Second, yes there is a gasket on the pipe connection to the block. To replace the gasket, park the car in a location for least 5 to 6 hours to cool down mabe longer. Have the gasket replacement, a tube of gasket sealant, 2 gallons of antifreeze, a drain bucket, and a very large rag or rags. Remove the hose, catch the fluid in bucket, remove the pipe, clean the old gasket area, apply gasket sealent, attache gasket, mount the pipe, tighten all mounting bolts a 1/2 to 3/4 turn each until torqued downed evenly, and attache hose. Fill reservoir, with radiator cap off, start engine and add coolant to radiator until full and you see fluid flowing. Apply cap & check for leaks. Easy???????? Good Luck.

Radiator leak


The hose that attaches the upper pipe on the driver side could be crack over the clamp could be loose. Loosen the clamp completely and remove the hose from the radiator. Check the hose for cracks and if there are any replace the whole hose. If not, replace the clamp. Remove the old clamp and get a new one that is the exact size or very similar. place the clamp on the hose, install hose back to radiator and tighten. If this does not solve your problem have the vehicle checked out by the certified automotive technicain.
