Question about Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

Will the MAF sensor cause my 1994 nissan pickup (4 cylinder to shut off when you stop? Truck is hard to start, you have to hold accelerator pedal all the way down to get it started. It runs fine at idle. I have replaced the fuel pump and filter, the distributor, wires and plugs.

Good Evening, if your truck runs fine at idle it would make me wonder about the mass air flow sensor, however when you first start it your idle air control sensor should open up and let your vehicle to idle up to warm idle and then back to normal. So there are a few things to check.

How does removing the MAF sensor "fix" the problem? MAF is THE most important sensor for the engine to run, while it may be your problem there should be an MIL on. Get the code for a clue to your problem

My brake lights will not engage when i press the brake pedal

fuse, relay, or bad connection.
check the rubber plug between the switch and mount, they fall out and can cause lights not to work.

Also check grey connection for rear lights under the bed of the truck. Sometimes gets loose or too dirty.

There have also been dealer recalls for this problem, so google TSB 1994 nissan pickup and look around.

hope this helps

My 1994 nissan hardbody 2.4liter has a high idle problem

hi,the accelerator pedal can be blocked, which causes it to have a high idle.well what you have to do is to see for the cable for the accelerator, which come on the injector pump.now you will see the cable attach to a rack on the injector pump, this rack has a movement position ,when you press the accelerator pedal it moves to the accelerate position.now what you have to do is to move the accelerator rack to the decelerate position, then after doing that start the engine, see the idle what it give.it should be lower now,put some penetrate oil to the accelerator rack, for the move to be free.hope that help you

Your slave cylinder for the clutch is leaking. It's on the bottom of the transmission towards the engine (follow the fluid trail!). Though it's not too difficult to replace, it IS messy. And be careful with what you touch when you have that fluid everywhere, it eats paint. Usually a new slave will come with detailed instructions on how to properly install and bleed it.
Good luck!

I had a similar problem. I changed the distributor cap myself for less than $20 and it fixed the problem.

Strong fuel smell

You more than probably have a gas leak somewhere in the fuel system. If you can smell gasoline, it is leaking somewhere. The lines run along the frame to the engine. The leak might be hard to see or hidden (on top of the fuel tank).

The leak is robbing fuel pressure from the engine, causing it to idle rough, so is probably on the pressure side of the system.

(Most fuel systems, except for "returnless" systems with Pulse width modulated fuel pumps (not very common), have a pressure line and a return line to the tank.
