You need to check the alignment of the AC compressor assembly, make sure that the pulley lines up with nearby pulleys and that the centerline of the compressor is at exactly 90 degrees in relation to the serp belt

How to replace serpentine belt to alternator

You'd better hope you have a belt routing picture under the hood. Usually the belt is released at the tensioner pulley, which is spring loaded to keep the belt tight. The pulley is unloaded by using a 3/8 long handled socket wrench. Find the square hole.

Replacing the alternator

Hi, best to get a shop manual for this operation, if you have not replaced it before. Usually there is an "Idler Pulley" on many late model cars that is "spring loaded".
You "Bias" this pulley (usually with a socket wrench) so that the serpentine belt has enough slack in it so you can remove it. Then you disconnect the Positive Battery Cable, disconnect the "Field Wire" harness and positive battery lead from the alternator, unbolt and remove the alternator.
Reverse procedure to install new alternator.

Take care

My 93 buick regal custom 3.8l has a bad ac pump and makes an aweful noise when running. The ac doesnt work and the 'clutch' on the pump spins freely, is this an easy fix or do i need a new ac pump?

you would need a new a/c pump, however you you didnt want to replace it and could live with out the a/c, a cheaper option is to replace the belt and bypass the a/c. Most auto parts store will sell you a belt of the correct dimensions if you tell them you wish to bypass the a/c. I've done this for many customers. It can be done on just about any motor.

Best of Luck.....

V belt broke rapped around crank pully broke sencer wont crank

The crank balancer pulley needs to be removed so the crank sensor can be replaced. You will need an air impact wrench to remove the pulley bolt and a puller to remove the balancer.

1996 buick regal fan belt slipped off

The idler pulley is spring loaded. With the correct size socket and ratchet and a strong arm just pivot it away momentarily from the belt enough to pull the belt loose. You don't actually remove the pulley. Just like taking a dead mouse out of the old spring traps. If you are getting some pulley noise, you can replace the pulley only (one bolt)
pour water on the pulley to see if noise changes, its an easy way to track down belt, pulley noises.

Diagram to change fan belt on 1993 buick lesabre

the "serp" belt is self-adjusted by a spring loaded tensioner pulley. the proper size wrench or a 3/8" square drive inserted in the tensioner and rotated will release the tension to allow the belt to come off. reverse order to install. DRAW A PICTURE OF THE ROUTING OF THE BELT AROUND THE PULLEYS BEFORE REMOVING CURRENT BELT!!
