SOURCE: leaking antifreeze

A quick check you can do to help your troubleshooting is to remove the radiator cap then start the vehicle. (Ensure radiator filled so you can see fluid level). Watch the fluid inside the radiator. Initially after you start the vehicle you will get some small air bubbles but they should go away in less then a minute. If after a couple minutes you have bubbles continually coming up or it starts bubbling out of radiator then you can bet on the Head gasket. If you do not get the bubbles it dosen't rule out either one but if they are there as described then you can look at the head gasket.

SOURCE: intake valve gasket leaking how do i replace

This is not a problem for an amateur
If it is a gasket I would clean the engine and then drive it a few miles to get it hot then with a flash light try to see exactly where it is leaking it could be a pin hole in one of your hoses or your radiator

SOURCE: My 1999 chevy tahoe is leaking antifreeze. I

it could but- check passenger side front where heater core line go into manifold right behind alternator the hose line is connected by a press clip into an alloy fitting this fitting gets eaten away by anti freeze and hose angle pulls back on fitting the part is $18 at dealer and is screwed into manifold use caution if ur r going to replace at very edge of aluminum manifold---and check ur water pump bolts the 2 longer ones should have a lock sealant on them they bolt in thru a water jacket

SOURCE: can a bad intake plenum leak antifreeze into the

I see a lot of lower intake gasket leaks on these but usually you get an external leak or you'll find coolant mixed with the oil, not a misfire. Upper plenum is dry on the 3.1 and just bolts onto the top of the lower intake. We usually apply pressure to the cooling system overnight with the spark plug removed from the misfiring cylinder. If there is coolant in the cylinder come morning then you only have to figure out where it is coming from. If the plenum is removed during the test you might be able to see where the coolant is or isn't coming from with a borescope by looking down the intake runner.

How do I locate a leak that lets antifreeze and oil mix inside the oil pan?

Most likely a head gasket. The coolant is forced into the oil chambers and mixes. This too leaks into the exhaust gases and burns off as you describe. You usually get oil in the coolant reservoir. This can be checked with a test strip available at automotive supply store. It measures the acidity in the coolant.

Hey Baptized,
You need to replace ALL the gaskets that seal coolant from ANYTHING... You may have a cracked head, cracked intake manifold,, or at worse a cracked block - between the coolant passages and the combustion chamber area...If you have a aluminum intake and cast iron heads.. this is a potential leak creator when the engine gets hot and cold quickly...make sure ALL the gasket surfaces are CLEAN.. and use:

DO NOT use silicone sealant - period!

Losing antifreeze changed thermostat and resivoir cap

Check you oil for signs of coolant contamination. If coolant is present in the oil, you may have a leaking head gasket or intake manifold gasket. If there is no sign of coolant in the oil, the antifreeze could be leaking past the intake gaskets and into the combustion chamber. It could also be a leak that only shows up when the engine is running, and you are losing the coolant as you drive. This kind of leak is very difficult to locate. You will have to look for signs of antifreeze around the upper and lower intake gasket area with a strong flashlight. Also check for signs of leakage at the upper and lower radiator hose connections and the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator. If you smell antifreeze inside the car, check the carpet for dampness caused by a heater core leak. Sounds like a lot of work, but these mystery leaks as I like to call them, can take repeated inspections before you finally locate them. I hope I have been of some help. Good luck and let me know what you find.

Lossing antifreeze but no puddles we think its the antifreeze intake gasget?

if no puddles or no keaks you can see, then its probably your head gaskets, or the intake gaskets leaking. look all around intake to see if you see any leaks. if you do its your intake gaskets. how does the coolant look! on my car when the intake gasket was leaking, it made the coolant look milky and a chocolate type mixture. so check it out first, the intake gasket. Coolant may flow through the gasket to the inside of the engine and mix with the oil. Pull the oil dipstick out and look at it. Oil mixed with coolant will have a thick consistency. Examine the oil filter cap for any rusty-looking residue. good-luck.

My 2000 Park Avenue Ultra knocks when you first start it up, but goes away after it warms up. It is also leaking antifreeze. Do you know what may be wrong?

Late model GM cars are plagued with antifreeze leaks around the Upper Air Plenum gasket and also the Lower Intake Manifold gasket. This is brought on by Dex-cool antifreeze deteriorating the gasket materials. If the Lower Intake gasket is leaking, it may have contaminated your loil with antifreeze. If there is antifreeze in the oil it should show up on the dipstick as a gummy sludge. GM has issued Technical Service Bulletins to their dealerships concerning this issue. Check with your local dealership to see if they will repair it at no charge. There currently is no recall, so they probably won't. In that case, take it to a good garage and have it repaired. Don't wait too long. If the oil is contaminated, it will damage your engine from lack of lubrication.

Most likely the intake gasket is leaking. You can check under the ac compressor and back by the transmission bell housing these are where the intakes usually leak. If you have a uv light it will illuminate the antifreeze very brightly.

Loosing antifreeze but no leaks

The loss of antifreeze with no apparent leaks could be the sign of many things including blown head gasket, cracked tank, or leaking water pump. I would lean toward a head gasket first. Have you checked the oil for signs of antifreeze? A head gasket won't leak until the system is under pressure and running at normal temperature. You could also have a cracked head although that is pretty rare. Check the oil and plugs for signs of anti freeze. Also check the tanks on the side of the radiator they could be cracked which only leak while under pressure. Check all hose connections and if so equipped tranny cooler lines to make sure they are all attached correctly.

2000 chevy impala ls - oil spray under hood inline with serpentine belt

You may have a lower intake manifold gasket leak (or a head gasket leak-slightly less probable) the lower intake can leak onto the serpentine belt and fling oil (and/or antifreeze). The lower intake manifold gasket is usually the culprit here. There is much information about changing it if you are inclined to do it yourself. If not, expect around 800 to 1200 to fix at dealer/mechanic. This is usually accompanied by (but not always) oil in the antifreeze, or antifreeze in the oil...

99 venture leaking antifreeze

Your leak is most likely the intake gaskets. These are a real common problem on these motors because they are plastic.check the mating surfaces between the heads and intake for signs of antifreeze. If it is the intake get it fixed right away or it can leak internally and cause bearing damage. Also use felpros metal gaskets.
