Question about 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight

1 Answer

I need freon in my car but there is a problem, when I went to get the freon the tech said he was unable to put freon in the car because his freon machine hoses didn't fit the connectors to my car. I was told I needed to replace the connectors to a newer ones because the ones I had were to old. I just don't know the name or the part name to do it. I was told I could buy the kit at the local auto parts store. Can you please help me find out what I need. Thank you.

It only charges halfway

Hey Don, What are you talking about..?? battery, a/c..??
If its the battery. is it a sealed battery..- replace it. If its a lean/acid battery with caps that allow you to check the acid level, check the not overfill..if all is well - replace it,
If this is a A/C issue, sounds like you need to vacuum out the air and replace it with freon and the correct oil. (try letting out some air - out of the valve where you are putting in freon - PUT A RAG AROUND A SMALL ROUND FLAT NOSE DRIFT(PUNCH) AND PUSH IN THE VALVE.. IF JUST HOT AIR COMES OUT.... you have found the issue....keep letting out air until freon comes out..(I had this same issue.. there was A LOT of hot air in my system.?? ... when I got it out.. the system worked GREAT!! ) - . if freon comes out.. stop!! - get vacuum pump and hose set, and get the air out - (you need an experienced tech for this)

How do i put freon into a 1984 grand marquis

You can't

They do not sell R12 Refrigerant - in over 15 years or more

In 1993 they went to R134a
You would have to convert the system on the car to have a/c

The car is 28 years old ,forget it

Freon is no longer -- as well

It was a Dupont trade name-- not used in a few years

The AC on my 2007 is not as cold as it needs to

It may be low on freon but that is usually installed by a service tech anyway. putting in freon isn't like putting in oil...
Maybe you can find a shop along the way who can check your freon level and put in more if needed.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

Where is the ac hose to put in freon

Its on the side of the freon holding tank, little black cap comes off, It is against the law to fill yourself due to ozone layer, only qualified tech can fill it for you.

Where to put the freon on a 2000 lincoln ls v8??

it is located on the bottom of the vehicle. you must take the driver's side tire off and the inner skirt to get to it. you don't have to have a professional do it. go to your local auto parts store and get a kit. follow the directions and you will be fine.

My ac doesnt work in my 2001 tahoe. i bought freon for it. the compressor is not kicking on when i turn the ac on, but the gage shows in the red when i hook it up to try and put freon in it. i shot a...

the a/c system needs a minimum pressure before the system will run. the system must have a leak so just buying freon may last a day or a few months depending on the size of the leak. also leaking freon into the air is ozone depleating, it should be recovered properly.

the system needs to be recoved of all freon. vacuum to -30psi held checked for leaks. (uv dye or nitrogen and soapy water). leaks fixed. vacuum to evacuate moisture and air. refilled with proper amount of freon (too much or too little make the air not as cold).

Add Freon?

Cars don't use freon any's been replaced by newer chemicals that don't destroy the ozone layer; RC134A. Most likely, you have a leak somewhere, that needs to be identified and repaired. You need to find someone who can troubleshoot your system. They're quite complex systems and one needs to be certified in the field in order to service them. Once a tech has isolated the problem he can give you an estimate for the repair. There are shops that specialize in a/c that are in the yellow pages or you can go to any Kia dealer. As summer advances, wait times extend considerably as lots of folks tend to put that off, so sooner is better.

Can i get freon for this car or do i need to take it to a mechanic?

maybe... what you need to do is find the hoses going to your a/c compressor... if they have a screw on connection then you can do 1 of 2 things... 1. get your a/c system vacuumed out by a licensed shop and buy a retrofit R134a kit from your local auto parts store... or 2. pay the outragous price for a certified tech to put in the R12 freon for your car... however... if someone has already retrofitted or you just got lucky and have quick connects(kinda like on an air compressor hose) you can go purchase the quick fill can with the hose probly about $15 and have a/c :D
