Question about 1994 Cadillac Eldorado

1 Answer

My 1994 Cadillac Eldorado started leaking coolant and it got to a point when my car started over heating. Then later it just stopped holding water completly. Someome told me it was my mojor so let it sit because I didn' thave the money for a motor. I let the car sit for a year untill I had the money then I got another opinion that it was my freeze plugs. I got that fixed not it shows steam from the car while running and the floor on the passenger side is wet. What are your suggestions to what it is?

My heating stopped working in my 1992 Cadillac Eldorado what is the problem

Try checking the heater control switch/valve, sometimes located in line with the heater hoses (it is a fairly common defect). You may also have a clogged or bad heater coil. (similar to a small radiator) or maybe a fault in the heat system's controls.

maybe you have a blown head gasket your leaking head gasket when ur car is cold open your radiator cap see if the coolant in it try to tap up coolant until the neck of your radiator then start your engine and observe the radiator neck if the collant puks it out if your coolant is pukking out meaning you have a leak or blown head gasket and thats the cuz of your overheating

1999 Cadillac eldorado overheating. Changed thermostat, still overheating now with white smoke coming from exhaust. Checked water pump belt, it is there and turning. Cold air blowing from heater, no heat.

coolant leaking into engine probably blown head gaskets. More damage will occur the more you drive it. Unfortunate and expensive repair on a northstar.

My 1986 Cadillac Eldorado is leaking coolant, what are the possible reasons for this

Possible leaks are the hoses, the radiator, the water pump, thermostat gasket, and if you smell coolant inside maybe the heater core is leaking.

Overheating

Overheating can be caused by several things including low/no coolant, blocked/broken hose, faulty water pump, stuck thermostat. CHeck the coolant level in the over flow tank and in the radiator itself. If it's low you know you have a leak somewhere. If it's full you know the coolant isn't circulating through the system.

Let the car run until it heats up then feel the upper and lower hoses on the radiator, they should both be hot and firm when the coolant is circulating. If the top is hot and the bottom is cool and pliable then you know the coolant isn't going through. The most common cause of this is a thermostat that isn't opening. Look to make sure the water pump is operating properly, that's what circulates the water through the motor.

If you suspect a leak then you need to find where it's coming from. Check around the head/intake gaskets for signs of leakage as well as around the side tanks on the radiator and all hoses and connections.

Start with the small/obvious things first and progress from there. Good luck.

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank(not the cap),this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
