SOURCE: 2006 ford taurus sel ++ rough idle

If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any faulty codes that it has stored. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. It sounds like a faulty idle air control valve, but getting the codes will identify what faults the computer has noted and in what systems. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: too fast idle running speed.

Typical idle for this motor is right around the amount you have described. Check to see if any check engine lights are on, or if the ABS light is on. A typical issue with this motor is the OVP relay that when not operating properly causes the engine to rev much too high (~1500-2000). Also do your revs drop significantly when you put the car into gear? If not then there really isnt an issue. When the motor is idling too high and you stick it into gear the car will typically lurch really hard.

SOURCE: i asked you yesterday about

There could be a vacuum leak. All vacuum hoses should be inspected and replaced as necessary. The computer does control timing but can be manually set. This could be an issue, or even someone messing with the CO adjustnment through the Mass Air Flow sensor. This is a very sensitive adjustment and should be performed by someone who knows how to do it. Another place to get a vacuum leak that is common is under the upper plenum(intake). Let me know if you find anything and if not we can go a little further into controls. You can email me at iambanshee74@yahoo.com and I should be able to find diagrams

How long since a tuneup? Any applicable trouble codes?
The generic info for rough idle on any vehicle is to check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum, something of that nature.

Why is gear shift rough when accelerating quickly?

you need to let the RPMs drop down to match the speed you're going for the next gear, though this is less efficient than power shifting through.
Unless you're slipping the clutch to smooth out the gear change, yes, there will be a definite surge every time you grab a gear in a manual transmission vehicle. Most automatics will also shift noticeably harder at WOT.
For more sedate, "normal" driving, you can shift slower and feather the throttle a bit more to smooth out the gear changes, but when you're ******* the throttle as soon as the clutch engages, it's going to be a firm shift. I hope is ok.

Run rough at low speed

Possibly there is to high of a mixture of gasoline going into the cylinder. It might be a computer problem, the dealership/garage with a Tech2 would be able to tell you for sure.
