To set the timing the engine must be at operating temp, with car at idle remove vacuum line from the disturbutors vacuumadvance valve on the side of distributor and plug vacuum hose next with a timing light connected to battery and # 1 cylinder check the timing it should be at 8 degree btdc, i gave you a picture of timimg pointer and crank,it needs to be at 8 degrees, if not loosen cist hold bolt and turn dist to get 8 degrees. move slowly while watching with light. hope this helps.1987 jaguar xj6 how to set the timieing - 16625e4.gif

No heat jaguar 88 xj6 fan wont turn on cool air out the defrost vent

I have the similar problem with both my Jaguars, one is a 1988 Jaguar XJS, the other is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6, both blow COLD air out some vents while it blows warm air for heat. I heard it had something to do with the cold air blowing as a dehumidifier, I don't know if this is true, but it is really annoying to have both cold and warm air blowing when I need heat in these cold Canadian winters. If you find out please drop this website a note and let us know how you solved it. thanks.

1987 xj6 ticking noise from right side of engine

My guess would be a sticking valve lifter. Buy a can of Gunk Motor Flush ( NOT radiator flush), use as directed, drain the oil and replace the filter, refill with clean oil, and see is the tick has gone away. Marvel Mystery Oil would work also if you can't find the Gunk.
