It has a ring on it that sits in an indent in the tranny. Push the axle in and then **** it straight out. Don't pry, as you could damage the splines.

Where is the starter located on the 2001 mazda protege? what is the best way to remove the starter from the top of the engine or the bottom

Your started is located on the back of the engine closest to the drivers side, under the air intake, if you remove your breather tube, that goes from your air box to the throttle body, you should be able to see it, It would be wise to safely support the vehicle, (or use a lift if you know someone who has access to one) as you may find it easier to do some things from the top and some other things from the bottom. Be sure you disconnect battery negative before you start the removal and clean all wire leads/connectors before installing the new one.

How do I remove the driver-side inner axle shaft

its retaind with a roll type snap ring. you need to POP it out. being carful not to damage it seal, pry with a good jolt between the trans and cv cup, or take a pry bar or pipe and jab at it like your stabbing it lol. dont use a hammer or go crazy but it takes a good wallop to release. then slide it out, to install, trun till it drops in and POP it in by hand with the slop in the cv joints.good luck!

I want to change brake pads on my 03 Mazda Protege SE. What is best way to release hand break cable from caliber, remove caliber? This is the first set of breaks for this vehicle, but I've replaced pads on...

Some calipers have a bolt holding the hand brake mechanism to the body of the caliper. hold the mechanism with a spnner or If yours dont simply lever the mechanism with a bar or long screw driver. Place a pair of lock pliers/ mole grips on the cable(not too tight or you'll fray/damage the cable) then remove the cable from the caliper. When you get the pads out use a screw driver or wind back tool to reset the caliper travel or you will damage the caliper or lose the hand brake altogether.

Replace driver's side door hdle & locking mechanism on 02 Protege

Removing the door skins are not hard, the problem is that they normally use a special tool. Without the tool you may break a few of the plastic clips. If so no worries go to your local automotive department and look for the clips.
You will also have at least one screw that attaches the skin to the door frame. Usually remove the bottom of door panel and work around both sides until you get to the window. Then remove the screw and unplug any of the power options..
Haynes or  Chiltion manual for your car should show you details.. It is easy for the average DIY person.
The handle is just as easy. Do you have metric and torx because you will need them.
