Question about 1993 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

Will start and run for about 5-7 minutes, then quit. I thought it was a fuel problem, so I replaced the fuel pump, filter and relay. Problem still exists.

My 90 f150 starts and runs great when it reaches operating tempit quits as thuogh you turned it off replaced temp sensors still have this problermi can wait 5 minutes it starts and runs

Under the hood in the engine compartment on top of the left fender well or the drivers side you will see three small rectangular shaped plastic modules. One is the fuel pump relay one is the horn relay and one is the starter relay. Before you buy another to replace the fuel pump relay at a cost of about $16.00 take the horn relay and put it in place of the fuel pump relay. If your problem is solved go and buy another relay and install it in place of the bad relay. These relays go out frequently in the older Fords. It's been in there a long time and the points that make contact get burned after years and years of service and quit working when they get hot. A very common problem. Good luck.

Fuel pump runs constantly with key on engine off. pulled fuel pump relay and fp fuse on firewall and pump still runs and engine will run. pulled guage fuse in dash and pump quits. reconnect fuel pump fuse...

Gauge fuse runs a fuel module that is installed to correct vapor lock. This module is what is running the pump. This module, called the hot fuel module is mounted on the passenger side behind the dash above the blower motor.

Both fuel pump relays run hot. I have replaced both of them. The truck started and ran for about 30 minutes then quit. I replaced the relays and it ran for a few minutes and quit again.

You could have a bad fuel pump relay switch. The fuel pumpmag-glass_10x10.gif relay switch gets the fuel pump running in the vehicle during the start cycle. The terms fuel pump relay and fuel pump relay switch are used interchangeably. The fuel pump relay begins its job when the automobile operator turns to the ignition on, but before the motor is actually running. At that point, the fuel pump relay in some cars sends a signal to the ignition switch, which in turn sends a signal to the fuel pump to turn on. Others fuel pump relays have actual circuitry inside of them that receive the ignition signal and directly signal the fuel pump to engage.

Have a great day!

Mazda Lantis will not start

What you can do is disconnect the fuel filter and have an assistant watch under the vehicle while you turn the ignition switch (but with out actually turning the engine on. If the Fuel pump is an electrical fuel pump it will spit out fuel for about 3 to 5 seconds.
If nothing happens then a more extensive method to checking the fuel pump

Ok if you could find the fuel pump relay.
It will have either 4 pins or 5pins
This is a trick to activate the fuel pump with out the engine actually running and for longer that 3-5 seconds.
the 4 pins are numbers 85 86 30 and 87 (87a)
If you can remove the relay and memorize where the pins go. Then acquire a bobby pin or paper clip and cross the terminals 30 and 87 (87a) and if the fuel pump activates then it functions but remember to have the key in the ignition with it to the run postion but the engine off. If this works then the relay could be bad, Test Terminals 30 and 85 for resistance.

My acura will not start....it is not battery or fuses

Make sure yu can hear your fuel pump run when you first turn on your key. If not check fuel pump fuse and relay for power. If your relay is working and your fuses are good it is most probably your fuel pump or fuel filter, the fuel filter is not expensive. If you can't hear it run and everythinng else checks out it is your pump! i hope this helps Merry christmas!
