Question about Ford E-150

1 Answer

Hi, we have a 2001 E150 Ford Van. A new (rebuilt ) transmission was just put in. Now the van is running extremely rough. We put high tech gas and some cleaner in... we had 3 mechanics try to put a diagnostic tool but because the check engine light does not go on, they can not diagnose the problem. So now, they are saying we may need a new computer..Which I think is crazy... Is it true that if it was the fuel injectors the check engine light WOULD go on...but if the spark plugs are bad it may not go on??? Please help, this has been a 6 day nightmare, he is stuck 2 states away and I want him home. Thank you.

Hi, the check engine light will come up if there is something wrong with the fuel injector and the spark plug as long as the car have a OBD-II system which your car has.
Rebuilding the transmission might have actually affected the car computer which has not been able to diagnose a fault despite the rough running of the car which is suppose to display a code after the scanning of the computer.
I think they are right to say you need to change the computer since it isn't displaying a code despite it's obvious problem....

E150 van overheats

You have to bleed the system. Not very likely an air lock, since air will come out of the fill bottle sooner or later. You can try removing the rad cap (when its cold) start it up. put heater on high, let it run and check for good coolant flow in the rad. Any trapped air will also come out.

Why wont my 1999 E150 ford van moter turn over after replacing transmission? new starter and battery. moter turned before i put the new transmission in.

Make sure there is a ground strap from the engine or transmission to the frame and/or body. I am guessing there was a cable removed when removing the trans, and that cable was not hooked back up. Alot of people forget the negative side of a circuit.

Who told you you didn't have plugs? I wouldn't take your van there again. I will help you find the problem. Trace the plug wires and pull the plugs and inspect them thoroughly. I promise you have plugs. If they look bad replace them. If this doesn't solve it e-mail me at and I will help you until your vehicle is running, and done as cheap as possible, I promise.

FSM for 2001 Ei50 van

Have you tried a new gas cap, or at least cleaned your current one as I described, and make sure it is on tight every time after adding fuel?
Very common code for that reason.

I want to swap engine and trans. from wrecked 92 E150 van to 87 E

You can swap just the transmission unless the shifter is on the column, then you will need the column as well,You don't need the engine if your is still good.

Cant find the oil filter on a Ford E150 Van

Under the engine, between the rear of the engine and the front of the transmission. It will be on a mount with an oil cooler, (it has metal fins) on the driver's side.
