Starting pontiac sunfire 97

Had recall done for ignition wiring now having problem starting. Jumped car and would'nt even try to turn over. Radio, heater, headlights worked fine then finally it just turned over, Could this be caused by recall work? Never had problem before

Car won't turn over right away. Only happens sometimes, like 5 of 10 times. Today was the worst, it wouldn't even catch and turn over, other times you can tell it wanted to catch but today it didn't. Had to wait for 5-10 minutes than it finally turned over. All power was there, just wouldn't turn over. Is this the starter or the solenoid thing?

If you never had a problem before the recall work was done, and now you're having problems. Its almost certainly caused by the Dealership technician flubbing a little bit on his reinstallation. It sounds to me like he didn't completely tighten down one of your grounds and its not making a good connection.

If you take the car back to the dealership and explain your problem, they should repair the wiring for free or little charge.

2000 Pontiac sunfire error message when trying to start car has had ignition replaced on recall ?

Was there a message, or do you need to have the pcm scanned for trouble codes to seethe error? If the recall work was done recently, you need to have those who did the work check it out. It sounds like there is a security glitch, but you need to have a tech look at it.

Recall ID # 38624 - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH minus.gif Hide Details Recall Date JAN 27, 2004 Component ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH Model Affected Sunfire Potential Units Affected 1415231 Recall Date: JAN 27, 2004 Model Affected: 1999 Pontiac Sunfire Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE ENGINE FAILS TO START AND THE DRIVER HOLDS THE KEY IN THE "START" POSITION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, HIGH CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND SOMETIMES PRODUCES ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT INTERNAL SWITCH PARTS. Car ran fine went in store came out and tried to start it and nothing

check the recall on your 2000 sunfire they have 3 recalls on the car that maybe one of your problems if so it will be no charge to get it fixed. They did have a recall concerning the ignition switch that can get over heated and can catch a fire in the steering column even if the car is off and the key out. So go to 2000 sunfire make a copy of the recalls and get to your dealer hope this helped.

98 sunfire wont start, battery good, replaced starter solnoid, starter, ignition.. please help

if you had the starter recall done, there is a relay mounted near the center of the radiator that controls start power. Pontiac dealer sells the part.

02 pontiac sunfire won't crank at random times

Hi, I had the same problem with my girlfriend's 97' sunfire, it wouldn't start so I jumped the starter terminals which I think screwed it up even more (causing the theftlock light to come on). It turns out this is a common problem that can be solved by hooking up a GM Tech2 scanner, going under "body" codes, and following the instructions for bypassing the PASS LOCK SOLENOID. Hope you find this helpful, Byron
