Question about Ford Focus

2000 ford focus car starts fine, when driving as long as you baby the gas pedal. all is fine. when you give a little bit of gas the power suffers. top speed is about 60. the car is a 5 speed with 82k. put in a fuel pump and filter. to no avail.

    ended up being a bad wire . but not bad enough to kick a code.

It is either one of two things. It is the throttle positioning sensor or the Mass Air Flow sensor. You can take it to Autozone and they will put their diagnostic computer on and tell you which one.

    OK. What I would do it disconnect them one at a time. That's the cheap way to do it. And easy too. Do you know where they both are located? Sometimes they will not show a code. They will just confuse the ECM. And cause the car to run terrible.

Check the TPS Sensor voltage

It is a two position sensor
One side is 0 to 5 volts
The other 5 to 0 volts --when actuated

Usually (2) T20 Torx screws to remove it

The battery died on my 2000 focus and when we changed it it runs like **** has no power it wont even spen the wheels from a dead acts like it is running out of gas when you mash the gas...

Is the check engine light on?

Disconnect battery again for an hour to clear keep alive memory from your engine computer. Then drive 15 miles to see if it gets better.

Perhaps there is some sort of wiring connection that has gone wrong in your car. AAMCO offers free car inspections and they might be able to tell you if your car has a wring problem.

I would have to say the fuel/water separator filter is clogged up. The filter will remove water and crud from the gas. It looks more like a small can under the car. If the car set up with a low tank of gas, water will condensate inside and once the new fuel sloshes around it gets all this junk off the walls of the tank and that gets sucked in the filter. Try and replace that first..
