Only use a tube cutter as anything else will leave shavings, you can get a compact cutter at an auto parts store

Removing/replacing right rear molding on 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis


  1. The molding on the right rear of a 1999 grand marqui is simple to remove & does not take any special tools.
  2. The molding has a sticky back on it but can be pulled off by hand.
  3. The ends that stick through the holes in the finder are held in place by a soft epoxy & have to be cut with a knife or razor.
  4. After you cut it, pull it out of the hole & pull the molding out of the grove.
  5. After market molding can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
  6. Make sure to clean all epoxy from the ends & the glue that was on the back of the molding.
  7. Save the old molding so you can cut the new molding in the same way. It comes in a role & not cut individually for you.

Brake line routing diagragm


If the lines are that bad, there is no simple cure but to replace them!
Check with a dealer (I know, I cringe at this thought,too! LOL) if a kit of preformed lines is available for a reasonable price; otherwise, you or somebody else, will have to remove each line separately to replace it. You would need a bender and the proper flaring tool and wrenches to do the job right... some of the fitting nuts may be unique to those connections so far as size goes. If you have the time and patience and a helper, you can save the labor costs. You will also need to find out the proper way to bleed the whole system once you have finished!

Replacing a brakeline


Well if you never did this before it depends on how mechical you are and what you have for tools . Ican tell you this it will cost you a lot to have someone else do it . But i can tell you what you would need to do it if your brave enough . Its realy not that hard . You need a small tubeing cutter to cut the line clean and sqaure and a flareing tool to do a single flare on the lines you need to cut . Then you can buy splicers that are flared and have fittings on them already . All you have to do it flare the lines on the vehicle but make sure you put the new conecters on the old lines before you flare them because they will attach to the new wipe line you need to buy it may be olny 6 inches long . So locate the leak in the existing line and cut the line out where it apares to be sound put the new connecters on the old lines flare the ends of the old lines put the new line in and tighten and it will never leak at that point again. The flareing tool costs about 20 to 30 dollars it could save you hundreds if you can do it right Good luck

Left rear brake line rusted out. can I get a replacement brake line and how difficult to replace?


No you need the make a new one. The best way is to buy a coupler napa sells them. The line rusted out in a spot ware you can't even see it but i know. You will need some speical tools a tubeing cutter a torch propane is fine and a flareing tool. The coupler needs to be three feet long it will have flared ends and fittings on it. You must remove the fitting that attaches to the end of the brake line at the rear fitting unscrew this is what you need the torch for. Hit it for 30 secounds with heat and spray with wd 40 it will break loose. Then screw the new line in the fitting you don't need to tighten all the way then carefuly snake the line back over the axle don't crimp the line use something round and slowly shape it . Then cut the old line with the tubeing cutter toward the front of the vehicle you need a stright cut but make sure that the coupler is long enough to reach to cut, Then you need the flareing tool to flare the end you just cut off don't try to dubble flare single is fine.But before you flare this end you need to slide a fitting on because after its flared it woun't go over the new flare. Then you just screw everything in place and tighten. Then bleed the brakes a lot of times you can just bleed the rear drivers side cylinder then check the master cylinder resiovier for fluid level

Where can i find a manual on how to replace the brake line on a 02 chevy s10 xtreme?


I'm not aware of a particular Manual that specifically addresses Brake Line for your Specific Vehicle.
However I have replaced several "complete" and "partial" Brake Lines in my years of experience.
Specific/Pre-Contured Brake Lines for your Truck are available at most auto parts stores. Calt them for availability and prices.
However these are somewhat expensive. YOU CAN 'MAKE' YOUR OWN LINES!
Also available at these auto parts stores are two (2) tools you can buy.
1) A Brake Line Bending/Shaping Tool.
2) A Brake Line Cutting/Flaring Tool.
These tools are very easy (and fun) to use.
The auto parts stores carry "Straight" "Bulk" Brake Lines in different sizes (lenght and diameter). They also carry Brake Line "male" and "female" Brake Line Connectors. Make sure you purchase the correct diameter size Brake Line and the correct Connectors to fit these Brake Lines.
If the original Brake Line that you are replacing has viable (usable) sections and/or connectors you can use, then use them.
Take the old Brake Line off using a flare wrench.
Check your Brake Line Connectors to see if they will properly connect to your remain system.
Measure this piece with a material measuring tape (don't tell momma!). Measure the straight Brake Line and using the Brake Line Cutting Tool, cut the straight bulk Brake Line. Using the old Brake Line as a reference: use the Brake Line Bending Tool to shape the straight bulk Brake Line into the desired shape, matching as close as possible to the original Brake Line.
BEFORE USING THE BRAKE LINE FLARING TOOL:
Place the proper "male" or "female" connectors onto the line, FACING the proper directions.
Using the Brake Line Flaring Tool: Flare the ends of the Brake Line.
Connect the "new" Brake Line using the flare wrench.
Make sure you Bleed the entire Brake System.

Broken Brake line


It's the same as any other car or truck. Simply cut the rubber off & there's a nut,like any other brake line. Loosen the lines as you would for any job. Now you say the lines are rusted,if they're that bad then you'll need to replace them from front to rear. This requires a tubing bender(hand held) & a doulble flare tool & unions. You can forget about that "expensive" part. It's a brake balance controler & never goes bad.

if you replacing only lines for power steering you dont have to take out the belt but on other side of linens are very hard to disconnect from the rack and pinion...
you have to lift and secure the front disconnect the lines from pump and fallow he lines and keep disconect the holders from the body when you rich the end you are right under the driver seat you will see the very little open space and you see the bolt that connects linen to rack and pinion you will need long wrench take it out..just take your time ..when placing the new line just make sure it seats good on place and you gonna need the bleed power steering system after changing the lines...
so finally this job is really hard to do if you don't have experience i recommended to you just bring somebody know what he's doing for save time and not to do some job double time.Power steering system is closed system air or heavy leaks can damage your expensive power steering pump and rack and pinion.

Rear axle berrings


Tools needed- typical socket and ratchet set, Axle slide hammer, Wiz Wheel type rotary cut off tool, chisel, ball pein hammer, hydraulic press, bech vice
First you must remove the rear wheels, then you must remove the brake capiler and mounting bracket, remove the brake rotor. unbolt 4 nuts on back side of brake dust shield that hold the seal and bearing securly in place. then you must attatch the slide hammer to the axle shaft by using the vehicles lug studs and lug nuts. use the slide hammer to knock the axle shaft out of the housing. it generally takes about 10-15 hard slams before it comes loose. once axle shaft is free to come out remove the slide hammer and pull the shaft from the axle tube. place the axle shaft into a vise and use the cut off wheel to cut off the bearing spacer. cut parralell to shaft until you hear a snap sound once it snaps use the hammer to slide the spacer off the end of the shaft. next you need to cut the bearing off the shaft using a the same technique being careful not the cut the shaft or the seal retainer plate. once the bearing is off then you can slide off the old axle seal. now slide on a new axle seal, axle bearing, and bearing spacer. take assembly to a hydraulic press and press the spacer and bearing onto the shaft until it seats squarely and make sure its all the way down onto the axle shaft. lubricate bearing with gear oil. and install shaft back into axle tube making sure that the recess in the seal retainer plate lines up with the abs sensor wire. tighten all nuts evenly top off gear oil
