I had this same problem with my 2004 wrangler. There is a plastic rod inside the metal shaft of the shifter nob that may have broken. When mine broke, the shifter button wasnt working and i could not get the jeep in park. Just order a new shifter nob from auto parts store or dealer. Its an easy do-it-yourself fix.

This is what I did to do a quick fix as I did not want to buy the whole shifter assembly which is about 200$.
Again this is only a quick fix as to what the problem could be if it is the same issue I had. Please try at your own eisk

Your ignition switch is open or is on acc. position.
try putting the key on, turn the key all the way towards you, then try to put in on park, if doesn't work go one step forward " on the key " and try it again. the shifter is not recognizing that you turn the key off all the way

I would check under you jeep at the transmission. there will be a rod there coming down from your firewall it should be in a bracket and have a nut on the end of it.
alot of them time with the vibration the nut will come loose. so you won't be able to put it into park. i would check there...
you can take your hand try to put the lever/bracket and move the braket . you will need someone in the jeep to keep there foot on the brake while you do this... but i would check there if this does not help e-mail me and i will help you throught this

Jeep wrangler 2005 automatic floor gear shifter is loose won't engage stuck in park

try pushing the knob down onto the shifter a little bit then try and shift. Sometimes if that knob is raised even a little bit it will be locked in park. Can't be 100% sure without seein it but worth a shot. Hope that helps you.

Auto trans stuck in park and ignition key will not disengage. Forced trans shifter out of park( so I could at least limp home),but it will not re engage and the ignition switch will not release key. Where...

I'm sorry to tell you this but there is no solenoids for park or ignition.
the only solenoid that is stopping you from getting it out of park or to any gear was the inter lock solenoid that works from your brake switch.thats why you have to push on the brake to get out of park.if your shifter is on the floor, you can remove the solenoid and not have to use it,so i'm guessing the ignition switch did not power the switch to move the solenoid and thats why it wouldn't come out of park, your ignition switch "might" come back to you when you disable the interlock and the shifter can go back in fully.good luck

Transmishion wont go int park

there is a plastic rod under the t handle shifter
with five little balls, if you pull the handle up, you should see the white plastic rod pull it out and if there are only 4 balls on the rod then it is broken, you can use a piece of wood (like a chopstick) that will fit, cut to length and you should now be able to **** in to park and 1st

2004 Jeep Wrangler - Clunking Noise when shifting out of Park

It could be lash in the differential which is normal, but it could also be a loose u-joint in the driveshaft. Check the rear driveshaft u-joints.

2002 jeep wrangler 4.0 auto will not start, maybe shift sensor??

Neutral safety switch is either bad or out of adjustment. On stickshift cars, usually found above clutch pedal. On automatics, aw4 trans is on passenger side of trans, On 727 Chrysler trans it's on the top left rear edge of trans casting just above the pan.

2007 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac automatic trans shift lever release.

Most common is a failing brake light switch. If the brake lights don't come on when the shifter is stuck and they work when the shifter works you need a new switch.
