Unfortunatly , you need a diagnostic reader to do this , but i would suggest to take to a local auto bosy repair shop , ask if they can check it to see what may be wrong , promise them if you are ever in a accident you will take your car to them , they may check the code for free , it should only take a couple of min to do

Chevy cobalt wont start has the security ligh on and check airbag lights. struggles to starts then dies

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

2009 chevy hhr 2.2l keys on ignition but won't turn car off and keys won't come out

There is a service bulletin for this from G.M.If you have less than 36k miles it is covered under warranty. The warranty on your vehicle is a 3 year 36k miles bumper to bumper warranty. The powertrain is 5 years 50k miles.Your ignition cylinder would not be powertrain.Powertrain is considered your engine and transmission.I will give you the bulletin number and the part number. This is for replacement of the ignition cylinder. The bulletin number is 09-02-35-005c.The part number is 20869121.These are G.M.numbers so they are only good at a G.M.dealership.If you have a dealership that you regularly go to.You should take it there and have them fix this.Let me know if you have anymore questions.Good luck.

2007 Impala. shifter locked up right after warranty was up. Had is replaced at the dealership. 13months later, 1 month after the warranty shifter locks again. Why does this keep happening? Got to the...

The dealer has the power to goodwill warranty something that is out of the 3yr/36k warranty, but if you go into a dealership and are all crappy with them they won't do ANYTHING for you.Call GM yourself and explain to them your problems. The number should be in your owners manual.Don't get crappy with them, just explain your concern of having to fix this issue several times and you are not happy. Also tell them you are looking for another car and even though you want to buy another gm product you are reluctant to do so because of all the problems with this one. REMEMBER to be tactful as this will usually get the best results.

Had an oil change about a month ago and about 5 weeks later motor is gone. No oil light came on, no oil leaks

WELL NO OIL LEAKS.WARRANTY MIGHT COVER IT BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS.ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE GM MOTOR OIL LIKE 5W - 30 VALVOLINE USE GM OIL FILTERS.THEY WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU BEEN KEEPING UP WITH SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE SCHEDULES.CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK LINE. THE CHEVY COBALT LS LT LTZ 2.2 ENGINE HOLDS 5.0 QUARTS OF OIL WITH NEW FILTER AND CHEVY COBALT SS SC HOLDS 6.0 QUARTS WITH NEW FILTER.IF OIL LEVEL LOOK OKAY.CHECK ON INTERNET FOR ANY RECALLS OR ANY TROUBLE WITH EARLY OIL PUMP FAILURE.

2006 chevy cobalt gas smell problem. There was or is a recall for this model car, but the vin. # is not in the specified perameters. It's the same exact problem as described in the recall letter. What can...

You need to have this looked at. One possibility is someone is topping the tank. Have seen where some people will try to squeeze as much gas as they can and fill up the vapor recovery system, pump until it clicks off. Don't try getting any more in.

The recall may still apply to your car even if the vin does not match, if the problem matches GM needs to step up to it. Sometimes there are unspoken recalls. The car maker knows there is a problem but only deals with it as the problem is brought in or may deal with it as a warranty repair. Is your car under the 3 year 36k factory warranty yet?

Air conditioner water leaking onto passenger floormat

that would not be covered because it does not affect safety. the only times that a warranty applies after the standard 3yr/36k warranty is when a safety issue comes up that could affect braking, steering, glass and fire. those TSB's are just references for the technicians to point them in the right direction for repair.
