Question about 2008 Ford F 250 Super Duty 4WD

Open Question

2002 Superduty Ford F-250 4x4. Had auto locking hubs, changed to manual Warn Hubs, but only lasted for 4 lock-in/lockouts and the the right hub will no longer engage. The mecnhcanic could not fix the problem, so he put on my second new set of Warn hubs, worked for 3 lockin/lockouts and the right front hub will not lock back in. this last time it made a grinding noise until I turned the hub to Lock and then back the "Free" where the noise went away. This condition only happens on the passanger side hub. Are there any suggestions?????

When you turn the knob to 4x4 the transfer case will engage then it will also activate the vacuum for the hubs. the truck will kick to a lower gear with transfer case engaged but the hubs are not. thats where the manual hubs come in you will have to lock them in order to spin the wheel.

large O-ring that holds in the lockout, just on other side of outside cover with 6 allen head or torque screws, little snap ring around the axel shaft outside end of spline, everything you see all the way to the ratchet nut that holds the rotor-hub on.The ratchet nut has 4 notches in it,stop there way inside.

Auto locking hub sucks is there a aftermarket manual locking hub kit

Unlike the 97-03 MY F-150s, the 04-08 MY use vacuum to hold the IWE ( Integrated Wheel End ) out, and once vacuum is removed the IWE spring engages the gears to lock the wheels to the front axle.

I have not seen a replacement front axle with manual hubs yet, checking Warn's site. Maybe check with Warn, but from the application list, 1996 was the last F-150 hub conversion kit they make. SuperDuty is 04, but that is an option from Ford up until 04.

Remove the automatic locking hubs from the vehicle. You will probably notice on one hub or the other the alloy tabs that extend from the inner part of the lockout hub are sheared off, they will probably be found loose in the hub or near the bearing. The manufacturer Warn makes a good replacement automatic hub for the Kia Sportage; Warn part # 61918 for the automatic hub or if you prefer the manual hub Warn part # 60247. The hubs come with excellent instructions to remove the existing hub parts as well as the installation of the new hubs. This seems to be a common failure with the Kia Sportage and almost certainly is your problem.

2004 Ford F-150 extended cab FX4. 4WD problem

Your front hubs are automatic locking hubs, and the gears are hard nylon. These hubs break very easily, therefore causing you to lose your front wheel drive in 4 high, or 4 low. If you replace the hubs with "WARN (name brand) " manual locking hubs, you will never have the issue again. Of course, you will have to get out of the truck and manually lock the hubs, but they are metal gears, and much more durable. I've personally seen the issue several times, and changing the hubs has resolved the issue every time.

Ford 250 auto/lock hubs

I have the same hubs on my truck as what you have. I have been told it can be done you just have to know if you have a dana 50 or 60 front axle. The warn hubs i'm sure are a better quality hub but if your worried about the auto feature of your current hubs. That is vacuum accuated when you 4 wheel drive is engaged. And there fore vacuum engaged. Mine used to work great but after a lot of mudding sand got into seals and vacuum didn't work anymore so i treat them as free/lock hubs.

Ford auto locking hubs

you can convert auto to manual hubs warn hubs or milemarker makes good hubs. As far as lift a suspension lift is better. This really depends on what you want to do with truck. I had a 97 f250 diesel 4x4 and put front leving springs on it and new poly spring bushings and was able to clear 35" tires on factory wheels. The best exhaust upgrade is going to be a new down pipe from turbo to exhaust as far as straight pipe or muffler it depends on personal preference
