It is probably the switch. The switch has resistors for different speeds. Sometimes when the resistor goes out then that speed won't work. So it is probably the resistors on the 5th level. You can get a new switch at the salvage yard pretty cheap.
It is the number 1 position that does not work but the other positions work including 5. Would you replace the resistor?
We do have a resistor off another Pontiac that is still good.
