I have the same problems with my 96 BMW. My radio has not worked since I changed my battery 3 years ago!? I have checked fuses, electrical wires but there is no power at all to the radio. THough the red light does blink meaning the theft protection is on. No power I have the code but am not able to enter it. Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem. When you say "leave it for an hour without power" does that mean just turning the car off? Or unhooking the radio?

    Regards,

    Nick

1995 BMW 540i. What is the sequence of steps required to put in the radio code? Do not have owners manual, but I do have the code. Please advise. Thank you. Baltimore, Maryland.

It will be with your owners documentation packet that includes the operating manual on a card in the radio guide booklet ( I just leave one in the glove compartment. The bimmer comes with two plastic cards displaying the radio unlock code for your radio. If you don't have or can't find the code in the radio booklet/packet, then you can get the code with your VIN (vehicle identification number) through a BMW dealership or a BMW Technician with access to the list. There are even Members of BMW forums that will provide your code via the VIN, but either way this will only work for the original radio (hopefully yours hasn't been replaced).
I bought a replacement radio for my 750 and I wrote the code down in several locations and I suggest you do the same when you get yours, as it's no fun guessing at it as you get three tries and have to leave the radio sit without power for over an hour before it will let you enter another code again and there are 1.000 possible codes.
Good luck.

It may very well have been the radios serial number as Kidyubyub posted and not the VIN. For my model Bimmer there were two different possible stereo manufacturers (Alpine and Pioneer).

I think the code corresponds with the radios serial number, and any BMW dealer should be able to give you the code based on that serial #.

What is the radio unlock code for a 1996 BMW 328i?

If you cannot find the code written on something in the glove box, you will have to remove the radio. Once removed, you will need the serial number off of the radio chassis. You can call BMW with this number and they will give you the code.

Hope this helps!

Hey there i have a 1997 BMW 328i and i changed my battery n when i started the car up my radio said code wait andd now i cant get rid of it please help me fix this. thank you ...

Hi chris,

Code wait is part of the built in anti-theft system BMW has for the radio. The ignition must remain in the on position for 1 continuous hour. Usually rush hour traffic does the trick. You will need the radio code to enter into the radio after it displays "CODE". just enter the code according to the buttons listed 1-6. ie if it ask for 13556, just enter the digits in that sequence. Make sure you have the correct code. If 3 unsuccessful consecutive entries are made, you will have to wait another hour.

My problem is that i just bought a 328i 1997 and the radio is coded, so what I need is the code but this car doesnt has a owners manual, how can I activate the radio again or how can i get the code number?

Unfortunately, you will have to go to a BMW dealer with the registration papers to prove you own it. Then they can look it up in their database. If the radio was ever replaced, they may not be able to figure it out for you. they will only be able to tell you the code of the original radio that came in the car from the factory.

My 1997 328i radio displays Phone. I have disconnected the battery and tried to reset but instead of asking for the code it still displays Phone. Please help!! My CD's won't even work.

somehow the radio memory is still thinking that there is a phone accessory attached to it and it will keep doing this until you either reset the radio or at least erase the memory inside of it. If I were you I would install a aftermarket radio in your BMW because at least this way you will be able to listen to your cd's.

328I BMW radio code-where/how do you find it

if you no longer have the coded card that came with the manual when new, you will have to bring your photo id and vehicle registration to any bmw dealer, they will supply it to you. provided you are the registrant.

If you're talking about the Anti-Theft Security code for your radio, I'm fairly sure that only a BMW Dealership would be able to retrieve and reset the radio.

You could also try disconnecting the battery terminals for 10-20 minutes, and see if it resets.
