Will831,
Check your timing belt too, it might be loose already. My car had the same problem and thougt that engine was going bad on me. Tried also the additives but didn't help. So I did a litle invistagation to figure out where the knoking sound is comming from. It sounded near where the belts are. Opened the cover and voela! found the belt was loose - took it out - upon invistegation, belt was starting to wear out out - one of the teeth was starting to peel off. Replaced it, retightend it and replaced the belt tensioner too - so far it's been 4month now and still no knocking problem.
Hope this helps..

Hello,

will831, If you will go to your local auto parts store and get an additive that is called Lucas Oil Treatment, it may helps to stop or quiet the knocking that you are experiencing. Also, Lucas has a great fuel additive that cleans your fuel injectors. I highly advise using both of these products intermittantly, to keep your engine in great shape.

Respectfully,

Terry

What causes a 1989 nissan pickup ping or knock?

Pinging or detonation is caused by the spontaneous combustion in the chamber from incorrect air/fuel ratio and timing. It is most prevalent in lean mixtures under load. Run the fault codes and check for faulty HO2s and O2 sensors as they tell the ECM what mixture and timing is required to stop it

I have on 01 xterra-service engine light on-codes P1126 & P0325. I think the battery is about to go,could it be realated to codes? Otherwise what do the codes mean? Appreciate any help

Your battery has nothing to do with these codes. Your vehicles computers have detected a malfunction or failure in the system. This triggers these codes and sets your check engine light. Below I have listed the code meanings and some repair solutions.

P1126 - Throttle Position (Narrow Range) Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

Power supply for the throttle control motor is provided to the ECM via throttle control motor relay. The throttle control motor relay is ON/OFF controlled by the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned ON, the ECM sends an ON signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is provided to the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ECM sends an OFF signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is not provided to the ECM.

Possible Causes For P1126:
- Harness or connectors (Throttle control motor relay circuit is open)
- Throttle control motor relay

P0325 - Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM).

Possible Causes For P0325:
- Knock sensor circuit short to ground.
- Knock sensor circuit short to power.
- Knock sensor circuit open.
- Damaged knock sensor.
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Possible Solutions:
- Repair or resecure harness or connector
- Replace knock sensor Bank 1 (Bank 1 if applicable)
- Replace PCM or ECM

The P0325 DTC is a very common problem with Nissan vehicles. On most Nissan vehicles the knock sensor is located on top of the engine block.

Knock in engine

the best advice i can give you is take it back to the dealer and let them know of the problem and see if they will fix it since you still have warrenty. because if something catastrophic happens you would be out all of that money.

Knock sensor circuit

The code means there is a problem in the knock sensor circuit, that means the the knock sensor connector wire pins may have a problem, the wiring to the sensor may be damaged, or the PCM may have a problem, and of course the sensor itself, I have one question did you tighten the sensor to the proper inch pound setting of torque? if not this can cause a code to set because the sensor does not vibrate as designed to send a signal of a engine knock/ping.
