Question about 1993 Dodge D150

Open Question

1993 Dodge RAM 318 rocker arms won't stay tight after head reuild. Torqued @ 21 ft-lb. After running for 30 min, rocker arms are loose again.

Replace the adjustment nuts with new ones, they are a special type of nut that keeps its setting by friction between the crimp and the threads, this friction is given by a slight crimp to the nut that makes it out of round near the top of the treads, u can also install a product to the threads called Loctite red thread lock, U can also buy locking rocker arm adjustment nuts that use an allen screw to "lock" in the adjustment, these are avail from amny speed shops, one i use is Summit racing, another is Jegs speed, please keep in mind that other factors can cause this, one is low oil pressure caused by a camshaft bearings not being installed correctly, there are holes that allow oil to flow properly, if they are not lined up correctly to the block oil gallery then this can starve the lifter for oil pressure and they get noisy.

You don't. They are non-adjustable hydraulic lifters. GM's spec for torque on the rocker arm nuts: Tighten the valve rocker arm ball studs to 47 N·m (35 lb ft). Once the valve rocker arm nuts are installed and properly torqued, no additional valve lash adjustment is required.

I think you mean the rocker arms. 21 Ft/Lbs. If your talking about the "yoke retainers" then they get torqued to 200 INCH lbs.

What are the torque specs for a 1993 6.5 diesel in a gmc truck. I need it for the head bolts and the rail above the valve springs


The head bolts are done in 3 stages: first stage is 20 ft.lbs, second stage is 50 ft.lbs and the third stage is an additional 90 degrees or 1/4 turn.This is the sequence.

The rail above the valve springs must be the rocker arm shaft. The bolts on it are torqued to 40 ft.lbs. The intake is torqued to 31 ft.lbs. Hope this helps.

What are the torque measurements for the rocker arms and intake manafold?


2.2L Engine & 2.4L Engines
These engines are not equipped with rocker arms. The camshafts directly actuate the valves.

3.1L Engine & 3.4L Engines
When install or connect the check the following:
- Pushrods and the rocker arms. Torque the bolts to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm). - Rocker arm cover using a new gasket. Torque the rocker cover bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
- Heater bypass pipe. Torque the screw at the water pump to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm), the bolt at the cylinder head corner to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).


About the INTAKE MANIFOLD...
-
Intake manifold nuts and bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
- Pushrods and rocker arms. Torque the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) plus an additional 30 degree turn. - Lower intake manifold. Apply sealant to the threads of the bolts and torque the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).

locate v8 on crankshaft damper(147 degrees ATDC). rotate engine until v8 lines up with TDC mark on timing cover. install rocker arm and pivot assemblies and torque to 21 ft. lbs. wait 5 minutes before starting vehicle to allow lifters to bleed down correctly
