You will get a spark if something is drawing amps, such as the lights you say are on.

Can I test an ignition module on an onan engine with a volt, ohm or amp meter?

well sure you can, allthough if you have allready replaced the coil and plug , i can't see why you'd need to , it's the last thing there is to replace , but if youd like to anyway , just ground the black lead of volt meter anywhere on engine thats not painted or rusty , hold red lead on - side of coil (its the one with half the battery voltage on it) and turn engine over slow as possible you should see the volts rise and fall as it turns over , if not the ign module is not working
also i question why does this have a condenser if it has electronic ign ? cant say id ever seen that before .

No spark when starting

COIL ON DISTRIBUTOR MAY BE SHORTED...

USE A 12 VOLT TESTER TO CHECK...PLACE RED WIRE FROM TESTER TO BATTERY...PLACE BLACK LEAD TO BLACK WIRE OF DISTRIBUTOR, CRANK ENGINE, IT SHOULD READ POSITIVE 12 VOLTS...IF NOT IT IS SHORTED... however this is not set in stone. DON'T USE A NINE VOLT TESTER...

USE A OHMMETER, CHECK THE RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE SIDE TERMINALS OF THE COIL, DISCONNECTED. YOU SHOULD SEE 0.75 TO 0.81 RESISTANCE. THEN CHECK THE RESISTANCE BETWEEN EITHER SIDE TERMINAL AND THE CENTER HIGH TENSION TERMINAL. THE READING SHOULD BE 10,000 TO 11,000 OHMS. ANY SIGNIFICANT DEVIATION FROM THESE NUMBERS WOULD INDICATE THE COIL COULD BE DEFECTIVE.

Car will not start

Hi Kevin, Have the battery checked and if it's fine, turn off everything and close the doors. Check to see if there is a spark as you connect the positive terminal. Keep in mind the computer, radio and clock memories draw all the time, as does the interior cabin light if the door is open, so expect a very small spark. Any heavy spark indicates too much currant is being drawn and will need investigation. Regards John

1997 toyota land cruiser right rear window not working

Have a look at your disconnected terminals and see which connections work what. You indicated some work at connector but not on motor?
Its possible that a bad solder job inside the motor may be keeping the reverse rotation of the motor from occurring. Jump the terminal with a power source and see if the motor terminal is dead. Some motors do not come apart. If you go to a Salvage yard, they may know how to test your old one and bring it along to match up. Often the left and right sides are different.

I need the firing order on the left side for disibutor for a 1986 gmc 305

Keep in mind, the spark plug wires can be placed in any position (depending on the spark plug wire length) in relation to where the number 1 spark plug terminal is located. In other words, once you assign a port on the cap to number 1 cylinder the rest will follow the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order.

I have a new battery but the fire keeps being drained, i jump it off and it runs but today the battery light came on the the radio quit working, the windows on the drivers side stopped working, the speed...

Get the battery recharged and have the alternator tested . Voltage at battery with the car running should be 13.5-14 volts. If the battery light came on with engine running that indicates a bad alternator .NEVER remove battery cables with engine running , tests nothing and could cause ecu failure.

How do I give a jump start to another veichle?

Your jumper cables are most likely red and black. Locate the positive and negative terminals on your battery, they are marked ( + ) or pos.,that's the red one, and ( - ) or neg. that's the black one. Conect one end of your cables to your battery (doesn't matter which one you do first) make sure you are connecting the other end to the same terminal on the dead battery (that is to say positive to possitive) now do the same with the other cable. There may be a little bit of a spark that's normal when you make the final connection. The danger is in taking them off, do it in the same order that you put them on, if you take both cables off at the dead battery and they touch you are going to be having a bad hair day. the thing that most people don't get is you have to have a good clean convention. If you don't try wiggling the clamp on both batteries to make them dig into the terminals. Also there is a huge difference between someone who left the lights on in parking lot and someone with a dead battery on the side of the interstate. The guy in the parking lot has a dead battery, the guy on the side of the road has a dead battery and a dead alternator, he needs a tow truck, not a jump.

Trying to install fog lights. instructions say to run lead to positive side of fuse box. How can I tell what side this is? Nothing on box indicates.

Everything in the fuse box is positive--they are not explaining it right. What I think they mean is to connect to the hot side, as opposed to the fused side. You can connect to any terminal there that has voltage. Do they have a fuse in their kit? I assume they give you a switch too? There should be a fuse somewhere to keep the wires from melting in case of a short.

How to switch out the battery

Remove Negative terminal first, then positive terminal. Battery will have some type of tie down or block at base with a bolt you will have to remove. Remember how it goes back together. Remove battery.
Install new battery and tie down or block. Install Positive terminal then Negative terminal.
Remember to never touch both Positive and negative terminals with a metal object (ie..ratchet, wrench etc) this can cause injury and/or permanent damage to a new battery.

My truck won't start, it turns over but doesn't spark

First check the ignition fuse (under the dash) if it is blown that indicates a short or excessive resistance (read... corrosion) in the wiring or a bad ground (again on a vehicle that old, probably corrosion)... If fuse is good use a meter or test light to check for power at the coil positive terminal...if this is good look at high tension side (Coil wire to distributor , under cap, rotor, plug wires) if no power to coil (or intermittent with "wiggling wires") then start removing wires from coil terminals (one at a time to keep track!) and cleaning them till they are bright, then replacing them... also check the ground straps (from engine or trans to battery negative terminal and from body to battery negative)... if the problem IS corrosion this should help.. another possibility is is a weak coil, if all of the above fails try another coil... hope this helps... ;-)
