Thier is many things that it could be but check to see if the glove box light is going off when it is closed push on the button with door open if that dosent work if tou have a volt meter unhook the neg side of the battery and put the meter leds between the battery and the cable and that will tell you have much voltage it is drawing make sure everthing is off

Hi again just got a new battery, battery light is still on car is starting, but now whats the problem

The BATTERY light indicates that your battery is not getting charged. There could be several reasons for this most probably your alternator, which generates the current to charge the battery when the engine is running. If the new battery is not getting charged, it will eventually drain not start your car. To confirm that the battery is not getting charged and that is the reason for the BATTERY light, put a volt meter across the battery while the engine is running. It should read around 13 volts indicating that current is flowing into the battery. If it reads 11 volts or less, that means the batter is being drained and not charged. Then have your alternator checked.G

Battery good, alternator good, starter good but my 1966 oldsmobile the alternator isn't charging the battery

Have you replaced the voltage regulator?
Unless you have changed the charging system and eliminated it, the alternator does not have a built-in voltage regulator like the newer ones do.
Be blessed.

Battery draining bought a new one same thing maybe alternator not keeping battery charged

maybe. Do you have a voltmeter? Check voltage at battery with engine running. Should be at least 14 volts. no voltmeter? take alternator to parts store for testing.

If alternator is good, check for shorts. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Put in new starter, alternator, & battery but drains it & dies.

It does not take much to drain a battery e.g interior light left on over night etc. OK switch everything off, disconnect the negative lead and fit a multimeter between the battery terminal and detached lead. Set scale range to 1amp. It should read near zero. Methodically remove and reinsert the fuses one at a time noting any changes whilst each fuse is removed. By a process of elimination you will find the fuse that it responsible for draining battery current. This fuse corresponds to the electrical circuit within which there is some fault or short. The starter is unlikely to blame since once the car is running the alternator will more than compensate for any current loss. Just a thought the truck is getting on in years so it could be worth also checking some of the mechanical items that might upset the running if not now certainly in the future: Exhaust GAS Recirculation (EGR) valve and inlet, Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. All are located fairly close to the throttle body and are really easy to overhaul on a preventative maintenance basis. If you don't know what they are look them up on Youtube

it is not the steering pump because you are not moving the wheel it is the idler pulley it might need replacing check to see if the belt is in good condition if it is just use belt dressing on the pully to see if the sound goes away if it does then the idler pulley needs replacing
