Question about Ford Mustang

1 Answer

My 1998 Mustang won't start and the theft light flashes when the key is turned to run. The repair man told me the security system is the problem. The P.A.T.S. code is B1681 Tranceiver Module signal not received. How do I fix this problem?

The ONLY way to reset this particular system from Ford, is to tow it to the dealer and they hook it to their laptop and it takes about 15 minutes to reprogram. Be sure to take all the keys you have or the program will render the other keys useless. There is no bypass or trick to getting this to work. It must go through their system. I wish there was a bypass to tell you about. It runs less than $100.

2003 ford mustang gt anti theft light flashing engine will turn over but will not start

From my experience...
A non PATS coded key SHOULD not turn the STARTER...!

If ANTI-THEFT were invoked... you can attain a not start condition which the Owners Manual says must be cleared by the dealer.

A working PATS key should disable the anti theft... by turning the ignition on... ELSE try your other key.

The SecuriLock [PATS]
passive anti-theft system is not compatible with
non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems. Use of these systems may
result in vehicle starting problems and a loss of security protection.

The 'theft system' light does not turn off with the key in the run position on my 1999 chevy cavalier. car won't start, it won't even crank over. the battery and the starter are brand

try locking your car with the key and unlocking it with the key, leave it for 30 second or so between the locking and unlocking , the car thinks some one has tampered with it

On the older fords the theft module has 2 plugs in them. You can disconnct one of them, I believe it is the right one , and disable the security system. Finding the module is the hard part. most are located in the middle of the dash.

1998 buick skylark security theft light on,car starts and turns of right away?

Your PassKey Security System is malfunctioning. The most likely cause is a bad ignition lock cylinder. Try this to get it started:
1. Set the parking brake. (This will keep your headlamps from coming on and running your battery down)
2. Turn the key to the "START" position and release it to the "RUN" position. (Do not turn the key to the "OFF" position or you will have to start over.)
3. Leave the key in the RUN position for about 10 minutes until the SECURITY light stops flashing.
4. When the light stops flashing, turn the key to the "START" position again.

This should get the engine started so you can drive the vehicle to get it repaired.

Anti theft system

The chip is in the key. Either the key has lost it's program or the transceiver is not recognising the key. Try another key if you have one.
