Air in radiator

the 4,0l and the 4.6 northstar have the same problem with head gaskets, the head bolts strip or stretch in the aluminum block causing little compress of the head gaskets, the combustion pressure pushes past and enters the coolant.this air in the coolant builds up and pushes the antifreeze out causing an overheat situation.recommend head studs not head bolts..again gm missed the boat or did it on purpose to generate work for the dealerships...

Where is the thermastat on a 1998 Olds Aurora?

Hello amtkmartin22: My name is Roger and I will help with your question: To locate the thermostat look for the upper radiator hose and follow it back to the engine. The housing it attaches to is the thermostat housing. Remove the two bolts that hold the housing and you will find the thermostat. Pay close attention as to how the thermostat sets in the housing as it will only work one way. Reverse the procedure to finish the job Refill the coolant to the propper level. Make sure the radiator is full before you relie on filling the resevour. If the radiator is not full the engine will overheat and damage the motor. See the attached picture of the thermostat housing. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Rogerrogerf1_46.jpg

A friend is wanting to sell me a 95 Olds Aurora but says it needs a fan. Should I buy?

If the radiator fan is inoperable it will need to be replaced immediately. It is also likely that the owner has been driving the vehicle in this condition which would cause engine overheating and potentially expensive engine damage.

I would not purchase the vehicle. In any event a car of this age will have covered over 100000 miles and you will find that there are numerous mechanical items which break down and need replacing to keep the car on the road and roadworthy. You will be buying a repair bill.

Look for a good low mileage 4 or 6 cylinder car and never purchase or hand over any money to a vendor without first obtaining a thorough mechanical inspection of the vehicle.

Avoid V8s as these guzzle the fuel (especially the older models like this Olds aurora) and offer poor miles per gallon except in slow to moderate speed highway use. Gas prices will soon be over $4.00 a gallon once more and you probably don't want to be stuck with a guzzler unless fuel costs are not an issue for you.

You can buy a replacement ambient air temp sensor at an auto parts store for about $10. Its as simple to change as a light bulb and can be found behind your front bumper at the base of the radiator.
