When installing an aftermarket radio, you will have a wiring harness with the new radio. you will have to buy seperate an adapter harness for the vehicle you are putting the new radio in. these wires are usually labled. Just match the colors with colors. watch for solid colors and the wires with stripes on them. The solid ones are positive and the one with stripes are grounds. Its pretty self explanitory once you start doing it

I have a 96 escort with no radio ;the wires are there, but i want to install a new radio.i don't know what wires hook up to the new radio

Hi, if the connector is still there, it is easiest to purchase a ford wiring adapter. The adapter will match the factory wires to an aftermarket stereo. If the connector is gone, see your factory wire colors below. Please let me know if you need additional help or have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I always would go to bestbuy or walmart to get a harness adapter kit and the radio bezel installation kit to install an aftermarket radio. Just plug it in, and the wires are all labeled for speakers, antenna, power, etc.

Want to know what the colors are for the stereo wires

At this stage of the game(25 yr old car) make your own. Run 2 wires from battery (B+ and GRD) to radio. Make sure you put a fuse in the B+ circuit according to Radio's spec's. Install antenna wire in radio and if you don't know what color speaker wires are remove a speaker look at its wiring and locate them under the dashboard. If can't locate them buy some and install them. You need a B+ and Grd wire for each speaker from speaker to radio.

I am sorry to have to say this, but what you need is to find someone who knows what they are doing to fix the wiring that the original installers messed up. There could be crossed wires, bad grounds, poor connections, etc. Under the worst case scenario, this could cause a fire.

If installing Toyota radios/CD Players they just plug in regluar sockets in vehicle.
If installing Non-Toyota radios/CD Players youll have to buy a wiring kit from Wal-Mart/Circuit City/etc it would have the wiring diagram in it.
