The temperature sensor is usually located where coolant flows through like around the thermostat housing. It would have two wires. To check it, unplug the wire connector while the engine is cold. (Makes sure the ignition key is off or it would throw a code).Use a multimeter to measure it's resistance. On a cold engine it should be a few thousand ohms. Now plug it back then start the engine. Let the engine warm to normal operating temp. Turn the engine off then measure the resistance again. You should get a much different reading this time (usually a few hundred ohms). If not then the sensor is bad. Also check if the wires are bad make sure there is no looses or damaged connection. The only time computer develop problem is due to mechanic mistakes by improper testing procedure. Other than that computers are very reliable. Also computer can develop problem by improper way of boosting a dead battery. The proper way should be to start the car doing the boosting, connect the cables then let the car with the dead battery charge a few minutes before cranking it.

Jina, you did not say what year, make, and model the car is.
If your cars battery is good, and you hear a faint click when turning key, the starter is probably stuck and on its way out (needs replaced). I will post a couple videos for you to watch and see if it sounds like yours.

I have a 89Honda Accord just bought it went through TWO Brand new alternators. When I got the car i fixed body ground, now when i start car alternator glows red hot in seconds. What could cause this?

The sounds so incredibly dangerous, I would suggest you call an auto electrician. You have a dead short somewhere. Disconnect the alternator and drive to the electrician using battery power alone. For an hours labour, it will save you money and a car fire.

Car turns over but won't start when hot and gives no codes

if a mercedes

Check the Fuel Pump Relay. behind the battery next to the OVP Over Voltage Protection Relay. They do fail. Occasionally the engine will not start when hot. This becomes more frequent until you are left stranded. If you are comfortable with jumping two terminals you can jump terminals 7 & 8 test the relay. if the car starts your Fuel pump relay is bad.

Car won't crank

No parts are ever replaced to resolve any vehicle issues

You have to proper test any vehicle systems that apear
to have a problem

Once all the answers are present, only then do parts get
installed if necessary

Things such as fuses & relays only fail here on these web site
blogs, for the most parts, way too much silly talk about nothing

Need to have the car at a repair shop that actually can diagnose
something

From what I see on this site from people asking questions,
that appears to be an issue also, finding a half decent shop
these days

Battery drain

You need to get your battery load tested, any battery shop can do this, even new batteries can be faulty, if the battery is ok then something on your car has a short and is drawing current, this can be dangerous as it generates heat where the short is and can catch fire. If the battery tests ok you will need to take the car to an auto electrician to find the issue.

Stop on stop sign engine died

If the engine won't fire up, but your starter turns over, you may want to check your timing unless you have a check engine light on. If the CEL light is on, have the codes scanned.

If the engine won't turn over with the starter or it clicks, have your battery tested at autozone or advanced auto parts. Replace the battery if it is bad. Else, have your starter tested.

If the engine still won't turn over and the battery and starter are tested fine, you may have a blown fuse, bad ignition switch, or a failed relay.

If the engine fires up but randomly dies and starts back up, you either have a failed sensor, failing fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad plugs or wires, or a failing ECU.

Car cranks over fine but won't start unless you press down on the gas pedal, sometimes theres a little backfire and then it fires right up. I was always told to not press the gas pedal on a fuel...

Hi,, your computer should be giving you a code. Do you get a check engine light? Most likely the IAC (idle air control) valve or throtle position sensor. If you can get the codes its giving you can track the problem down better without guesswork.

How do you know when your starter on your car is about to give out? it wont turn over...it left me stranded once again!

First make sure the battery in in good confition and fully charged. Turn on the headlights and have someone attempt to start the car whilst you observe the headlights. If they go dim, the starter could be poling and drawing too much current. If you can, feel the starter motor, it should not be hot unless you have tried many times to start. If quite hot, headlights are dim and engine wont crank over, recheck the battery and if ok, overhaul the starter motor.
