The problem is the Carrier, or for normal people, it is the door mechanism. Your can get at the dealer, or on line at bimmerspecialists for about $80. This is a common problem on the X5's. You can look search on google for the instructions on how to replace it as well. The dealer is quiet expensive. I just replaced both of mine on my wife's car yesterday. Good Luck.

2009 Hyundai Elantra SE - Driver side rear door won't open from the inside or outside.

You will need to remove the inside door panel, what that takes I don't know, but it must come off to access the door latch, there you will likely find the latch release control rod has come off or the latch is defective.

Driver side door is jamed shut. ouside door handle and inside door handle broke. can't open door. how do i get the door open or can you take inside driver side door panel off with door closed?

i don't know about taking the panel off with the door closed, but you should be able to remove the inside handle. there should be just one screw holding it in it should be right in the middle usually it is covered with a plastic cap. once you get the handle off manually pull the mechanism and open the door.

Hey there,
I have the same problem, for me it was the metal ball at the end of the cable, on the inside of the door, was broken off. To me it seems it needs to have that cable or the clip attaching the cable replace. I took off the door panel and used a mirror to peer inside. You'll have to unscrew a plastic black cover which hides the cables near the mechanism.
Hope this helps

The drivers front door will not open from the inside. The interior door handle won't activate the mechanism to open the door. Yet, the exterior door handle will open the door. Please advise! Thank you!

It could be the latch, but look to see if the interior door handle rod is still connected to the latch assembly. You will need to remove the interior door panel.

Cannot open drivers door from the inside on 2001 dakota can open from the outside. The lock works for the outside handle. I have taken off the inside door cover

Either:
1. The Metal Rod connecting the inside door handle to the door mechanism is most likely disconected either at:
a. The inside door handle
or
b. The connection on the door mechanism.
2. The Door Mechanism is not operating correctly.
You should be able to see the door mechanism and the connections. I sometimes use a poskeyt mrror and flashlight to see the mechanism.
A. Check the connections and try moving the metal bar back and forth attempting to open the door.
B. If this does not work: then attempt spraying WD40 into the door mechanism and re-attempt.
C If this does not work: then remove the mechanism and check the inside door connection mechanics.

Im not sure about the hardware on this particular car, but all cars have a rod linking the inside handle to the doorlock, attacked on both ends by a type of plastic clip. When it breaks the rod simply slips out and the door handle will move idly when operated, not opening the door. You will have to remove your door panel carefully and remove the handle to inspect the mechanism. If it is the clips, they should be easily available at your autoparts store.
