Will an abs problem cause my battery to die. I am having to jump my truck everytime i use it. New battery, 0 after markets.

Without a heat strip on the battery and a block heater, at that temperature the battery isn't going to be optimal at supplying power. Look for a draw on the battery when the engine is not running. It coud be a light in the glove box , trunk or under the hood causing it or your alternator may not be charging to it's fullest. If just one diode in the alternator is shorted you'll drain the battery over night. If one is open, the alternator has lost 1/3 of it's rated output. If your hrad lit switch is on the steering column, it's possible it will turn the head lites on when it gets cold..Happened to me.

Had my alternator rebuilt, but batteries still go dead.checked alternator shows charging at 11.9 volts then jumps to 15 volts after 2 minutes. is this the alternator

The alternator should be showing at least 15 volts when running! Anything lower would indicate the alternator is at fault, since you say it is showing below 12 volts even for 2 minutes indicates a fault.

there still could be a fault with the battery not holding its charge or something draining the battery like a wire shorting or trunk light staying on that is making the battery go flat!

Battery is drained every morning

Drains are a direct short, either within the battery whereby the cells fail to maintain continuity, or there is a connection short outside of the battery, Check the ground connection and look also for corrosion at the terminals. Trace the wires for any possible insulation damage. Even a small pin hole can short a line, so test with your meters and observation.

2003 mustang gt drains battery in 2 days

03 Mustang GT (Parasitic) Battery Drain Fix
welcome.gif
Hello,
I am seeing a lot of mustangs are having battery draining issues and I wish to share some simple solutions found while working on a friends 03 GT 4.6ltr.

In a quiet area, key switched off, hood up, Listen carefully close to alternator. I heard a high pitched hissing/whistle sound at low volume, came from back of alternator. This sound was the voltage regulator/rectifier staying on when key is off due to faulty diodes inside the voltage regulator/rectifier circuit, can cause battery to go dead after car not ran in about 2-7 days.

After having the alternator tested free at a parts store, test showed alternator was good because the faulty diodes in the alternator did not show up on the test, the machine did not test for faulty drain back issues that were present.
Alternator on-car-fix:

There was battery voltage running at all times through the two-wire connector on back of alternator. Disconnect the battery first for safety and to reduce chance of short circuit. The yellow wire/with white stripe is hot while car is off so I traced this from the 2-wire connector on the alternator then closer towards driver side front fender. Next I cut the Yellow/White Stripe wire, spliced a good connection wire to it and ran it through a hole in the fire-wall to the fusebox(under dash), connected it to a 15a fuse that does not get used but has power when key is turned on but no power when key is off.

The purpose for re-routing the hot wire to the alternator, is to turn off the alternator charging circuit when the key is turned off so it may not run down the battery. I am seeing good results with this fix(or patch) so far. No More Parasitic Battery Drain!

Another fix can be to change the small pulley on the alternator to a larger pulley so the alternator does not spin too fast, putting too much energy through the diodes can cause a charging system to act a fool. So if you have charging issues and have an alternator changed, putting a larger pulley on can make sense turn into saved dollars(especially on high revving engines).

I hope this info helps to solve some draining battery and/or alternator issues.

Describe your 99 ford expedition the battery light turns off and on and then the battery started and loss charge. The truck battery was so lo that the lights turned off. Now the truck wont start its dead.

Possible that the alternator is faulty , the charging section of the voltage regulator charger is faulty, finally there is some heavy shorting in the circuit or a possible poor ground connection from the battery to the chassis.
You will need to charge the battery and recheck once again to confirm , check the charging voltage and check the drain.

It sounds like your alternator is defective and draining the battery.
Since the alternators function is to charge the battery, if it's not working you will be running off battery power. With a short in the alternator that would explain the sudden drain on the battery.

BUT before you buy anything have the alternator tested first. It could be something more simple like a bare wire grounding out against metal, which would cause the problem.

Simple things first, so test it before you buy a new one. A parts store will test it for free.

Even still I suspect the alternator. A new will cost $160 maybe more.

Have installed new batteries. New Alternator. After leaving 04 duramax parked for 3 days electronics are dead. Batteries were fully charged prior to parking the truck.

There is a very good possibility that there is a short in the wiring that is causing the battery to be drained when it is off. There are a few auto parts stores that can do a complete electrical system check and they can test the battery drain when the car is off. These problems are usually caused by a faulty relay which leaves a component on when the vehicle is off. Or there can be a wire shorting. However, finding a short is often like chasing ghosts. I would recommend going to advance auto. The electrical scanner they have there can detect battery draining.

tell you what you do, because i think the alternator may be the problem, remove all the wire from that connection and tape them together good, and see if batt still goes dead, if it doesnt then replace alternator. hope this helps.

Battery dies over night

It's probably the door light. This is a common problem and more can be found at TEAM SWIFT. You can disconnect the wire from the door jamb or turn the dome light to the off position. TEAM SWIFT has this common fix more in detail.
