Question about Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

The blinkers wont flash. The hazards, head light and brake lights all work. They will flash when moved maunally but other wise they just stay on or dont come on at all. I have replaced the flasher fuse and the switch on the inside of the stering wheel. The bulbs are good and all of the other fuses are good. What now? 1990 Cheverolet Lumina Car 4 cylender

So you have to hold the turn signal switch to get them to blink? If so this is because the switch is shorting out or is not making good contacts and try clean it hope this helps

1995 Saab 900 Hatchback, problems with all exterior lights

Wow !! Where to start ??

I think most if not all of the lights go thru the ignition switch. What I mean is the ignition switch must be on for the lights to work.
Most of the lights are on different circuits with different fuses and relays. They are connected to the battery and alternator but not directly. Most but not all are connected to the headlight switch.
One thing that does tie everything together is the grounding of the car. All voltage goes back to the battery by way of the steel frame of the car.
If a ground strap or cable is loose or dirty, electricity has problems getting back to the battery.
So the options are the headlight switch, the ignition switch, and the ground circuits.
I would start by checking the tail lights or headlights to see if they are getting 12 volts, then check and see if the lights are grounded back to the battery. I've even run a wire from front to rear to bypass the car ground connections to test.

I have a 1990 Mercury Cougar. Several problems...Blinkers, hazards, horn, and break lights are not working. However the break light in the back window comes on when the break is pressed. Checked fused and...

I am unaware of what a "CO" display is.
Now with the blinkers, hazard, horn and brake lights not working that may be the multi funtion switch (blinker switch) that is located inside the column (where the blinker lever attaches).
Obviously the blinker, hazard and horn will all work off of something in the column. Brake lights, you may think a switch on the pedal.

the brake lights do work with that switch but when you have the kind of tail lights where a turn signal light shares the same bulb as a brake light, the brake light is cancelled for the turn signal by running through the multi function switch inside the column.
The third brake light does not blink so its not on that same circuit.

Probably the blinker switch ..The brake light circuit runs through the blinker switch..Let somebody look and while you have the brakes applied move the switch around and see if the lights come on

Brake Lights and Blinkers don't work

try tapping the hazard switch on and off a bunch of times fairly hard. these switches have a tendency to go bad and neither the hazards or turn signals will work
