    are you asking about the engine temp sensor or are you asking about the temp senors for the air conditioning or the out side air temp. Please be specific. THANK YOU

I read on that the coolant temperature sensor is located on the left side of the engine down below the panel that holds the fuses and below the cruise control on the 'left' hand side. It screws in to the manifold, I believe.

NOTE Use care when handling the ECT sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.
NOTE The engine coolant temperature sensor is located on the intake manifold water jacket or near the thermostat housing. On the 4.6L engine, the coolant temperature sensor is located on the rear cylinder head, at the cruise control servo bracket. It is necessary to drain coolant from the cooling system to a level below the sensor, prior to sensor removal.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the coolant level below the height of the ECT and recycle the engine coolant.
  3. Detach the electrical connector at the sensor.
  4. Remove any obstruction to access the ECT.
    1. On the Catera, this would include removing the intake plenum and the intake bridge.
  5. Using a deep well socket, remove the sensor.
To install:
  1. Coat the threads of the new sensor and install it in the engine. Tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  2. Install the electrical connector.
  3. Refill the system with coolant.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Detach the electrical connector.
  2. Attach an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals and then measure the resistance and compare with the accompanying chart on a cold engine. Measure the coolant temperature in the radiator or overflow bottle.
    1. Compare the resistance and temperature on the chart.
  3. Tape an automotive thermometer tightly to the upper radiator hose. Start and run the engine to normal operating temperature, comparing the temperature on the thermometer to the resistance reading on the ohmmeter. The readings should coincide with the chart.
  4. If the sensor is not in specification, replace it.

Sensor Removed From Vehicle

  1. Remove the ECT from the vehicle.
  2. Immerse the tip of the sensor in a container of icy water (0°C/32°F), as measured with a calibrated thermometer.
  3. Attach an Ohmmeter to the sensor connector. The Ohms value should read approximately 9400 to 9500 Ohms.
  4. Using the thermometer readings, compare the resistance of the sensor to the temperature of the water.
  5. Repeat the test at two other temperature readings, heating the water as necessary.
  6. Refer to the resistance value chart; if the sensor is not within specification, replace it.

I don't think you really understand what this fault code means, it means that likely all the engine cylinders are misfiring at random no set pattern, not any particular cylinder. I would start with checking for engine vacuum leaks like the intake manifold gasket. that is all I can say since you provided no make, model or year and engine type and size information.

1998 cad. deville engine fans only work when a/c is on. i took temp sensor plug off and jump it fan worked. when out and got temp sensor put it in still didnt work

On some models, when A/C is used the temp switch gets by-passed so that the fan runs.
Without the A/C, the fan may cycle on and off.
If it doesn't cycle, maybe the temp sensor needs to be replaced or at least tested...

1998 cadillac deville , cooling fans for rad will not come on and I already replaced the AC comp relay

The only other things would be the coolant temp sensor or the engine computer. Alot of the new GM's have the on and off function of the cooling fans controlled by the computer. If the coolant temp sensor is ok, then most likely the problem is in the engine computer.

1997 cadillac deville concours, replaced battery and alternator already. Car hesitates to start for a few days and then needs a jump to start, what else could it be?

its the mass air flow sensor follow your air intake hose till it connects with engine ( throttle body ) it is right on top first thing plugged in unplug it then start it it will be fine got knew one at junkyard for $20 they are new for $150 or more my 97 runs great thought it was fuel pump its mass air flow sensor

97 deville overheating after having to replace coolant resevoir.Once you let it cool and cycle fluid w/cap off resevoir,it will start forcefully bubbling out and center reading starts climing...

Gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir while the motor is running indicates a blown head gasket.
If in doubt, take it to a radiator shop and ask for a combustion gas check on your radiator.

I think you need the head gasket replaced.

4.9 engine: remove negative battery cable from battery,follow top radiator hose from radiator to top of engine,look to the left of the hose and you will see the tempature sensor. sensor is left of thermostat housing
