Does the third (hi mount) brake light still work assuming the bulb in it is good? One thing you should check is try wiggling the the turnsignal lever and and have someone look and see if the lights come on.If they do come on the multifunction/turn signal switch is bad and is a very common problem.

That one might be to cut off the cruise control. I could look up the wiring diagram if you really need it. No, you don't have to replace both. The way to test the switch off the car is with an ohmmeter. On the car, I would pull the connector and short the terminals in the connector with a paperclip to see if the lights come on. If you can do it with a paper clip but not with the switch, you've got a bad switch. If they don't come on with the paper clip, check the brake light relay in the relay box under the hood. If you have more questions or want that wiring diagram, let me know.

The other switch is the shifter switch. When you press the brake pedal down it lets you shift the car out of park. No you don't have to replace both switches.

Ok heres what you do they should have 12volts going to them lights when on so get a voltmeter and test them and make sure they both have power one switch is for your brake light the other is turn signals so i would start testing at the socket work way back to the fuse box

Breaklights dont turn on to my 97 oldsmobile cutlass supreme

Hi, first check the 15 amp Stop Light Fuse. If that is good, pull the connector off the stop light switch above the brake pedal and connect the orange and light blue wires using a paper clip in the end of the connector. If you can get the lights to come on with this paper clip, replace the stoplight switch. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have a 1997 olds cutlass supreme and have no brk lites

sounds like a bad or loose ground wire, it would be located in the trunk near the tail light assembly, the other switch is for the cruise contro, it's what cuts the cruise when you hit the brakes.

They are unrelated. Just make sure your brake release is fully relesed. The switch turns the light on if the release isn't against it fully.

Where is the stop light switch located on an 88 olds.-cutlass supreme?

The stoplight switch is in the brake pedal. To get to it you need to remove the plastics under the drivers side dash area, its a small push button about the size of a pen. Every time you push on the pedal it pushes the button, its about 8-10 inches above the rubber on the pedal.
