Question about Ford Escape

1 Answer

My Escape began "cutting out" while driving. Thought it might be the fuel or fuel filter, so we replaced these to no avail. On the third day, it began to squeal a bit and was losing power so badly I could barely drive it. The rpm's were not getting over 2000. We replaced the serpentine belt, the tensioner pulley, the a/c compressor, and finally discovered that the power steering bracket was broken, so we fixed that as well. So far, it hasn't fixed the problem. When we replaced the power steering pump, we did notice that the line was hot. I am wondering if possibly the sensor could be bad.

I personally would check the fuel pressure. Then I would go back to the coil. I have seen brand new bad coils out of the box. The symptoms of a loss of power point to this component, especially if the car idles well, but loses power when accelerating. Please do not rate this reply - we all are left to grasp at straws since you have changed pretty much everything. Good Luck. Please post the final fix of the problem.

Try removing the belt and turning each pulley by hand. If everything is smooth and free, with the belt still off, drive down the block once and see if the noise is there (this will eliminate all rotating accessories on the front). If you hear the noise, then there is a problem deeper inside. Oil pressure is good? Dont' forget when doing this, you will have no power steering, so be careful.

SOURCE: Replace belt tensioner pulley on 1994 buick skylark

You need to put a piece of wood underneath the oil pan and place a jack underneath the oil pan/motor, loosen the motor mounts that are next to the belts, then raise the motor enough to reveal the nuts/bolts for pulley...just dont raise the oil pan so high that you crush it or break something, only enough to be able to reach tension pulley...

I remember the "Parts Replace" routine all too well from my truck. It's probably the fuel filter needing to be changed, clogging up and clogging the flow.

Has began cutting off in midmotion. Have put fuel

if it were the fuel filter you would feel the engine starving for fuel. If it just cuts out its not a filter. Its most likely a fuel pump or one of three ignition parts. Only testing will reveal the faulty prt unles you just want to throw parts at this.

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.
