SOURCE: Code Reader reads Shifter Solenoid Stuck or Off

The Shift solenoids are located in the transmission oil pan. I would recommend replacing both shift solenoids while you're in there. Also replace the filter and pan gasket. The shift solenoids are located towards the rear of the valvebody and will be identical to each other. They are held in place by a retaining clip which is easily removed with a small screwdriver or similar tool. Care must be taken as parts may fly out of the bore when the solenoids are removed. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: set timing 1997 jimmy

Ok that's pretty simple Put cylinder # 1 on TDC= top dead center on the (compressionstroke piston all the way up). Mark on metal part of distributor (with marker) where the number one is on the cap( that's where the number 1 wire plugs in) Then in-plant distributor make sure that rotor point is pointed to #1 on the cap, turn distributor shaft until this is achieved or as close as possible try to center shaft so you can adjust... ****** or advance to fine tune after you in-plant distributor if needed. Contact if you need more help . Good Luck

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy, reverse went out. I have some forward gears, but it is shifting very hard and the gears are winding out too far.

May be some shift solenoids issue. Do you have a service engine light on? If so that will tell what solenoids may be faulty. The shift solenoids are inside the transmission pan and bolted to the bottom of the valve body.

My 97 jimmy auto transmission wont shift to 3rd . rpm just go up and sounds like im in neutral . just started this yesterday..single broke mom needs help please

Make sure your tranmission oil level is correct. You need to check it with the vehicle warm and running with it in park. If the oil seems dark or smells burnt that is not a good sign. There are shift solenoids in your transmission that can fail but you need a scan tool to troubleshoot those. If you have an Aamco transmission shop near they may test it for free. It also may be more that just a shift solenoid and may need a new transmission.

The shift solenoid is a valve that controls shift timing.
The solenoid pack is located inside the transmission on top of the valve body.

Transmission problem

is the shift solenoid getting a signal to shift? a code doen't always mean the part is the problem, it can be the wiring and the PCM (powertrain control module) as well causing the problem, but the PCM is the least likely cause, check the wiring from the trans connector to the PCM..

Shift solenoid

The solenoid comes out with one screw and one wire connection once the pan is dropped.
