There is a good chance this is caused by a problem with the vacuum
system -- usually a vacuum hose that is worn out, cracked, falling
    apart, disconnected, etc.

If it is just a hose, it should be super easy and pretty cheap to fix.
First open up your hood and try to find the vacuum hoses.

Try to find the hoses and see if the size is marked on the side of it in white printing.

Go to an auto parts store and buy some hose of the size you need. Cut
it to length using scissors to match what is in your car now. Replace
the hose pieces one at a time so that you do not get confused as to what
    connects to what.

When you are pulling the old hose off of splitters or the connection to
your engine, the hose might break and leave a ring around the connector.
You need to pry this old hose off in order for your new one to connect
and have a good seal. If the old hose is really old and brittle, your
hands will get really dirty with charcoalish burnt rubber.

My 2004 would cut off at idle, but start again after a min or so. But time it ran and cut off after a mile. Now it won't start at all. Won't turn over. It will move somewhat when I turned it by

No.
The crank sensor tells the computer when number one cylinder is at top dead center to find the timing for the spark plugs.
If the engine will not crank with the starter, the starter, key switch, battery or cables could be faulty.
Some of these items could also cause it not to start.
If the engine is stuck you won't be able to turn it at all.

My 2004 silverado crewcab battery went dead and was replaced. The Air conditioning system now only blows through the defrost vents and the dial to change the airflow does not work. Can this be reset?

Turn the key on and make sure the blower motor is working. It doesn't matter what speed. Turn the key off. Pull the hvac1 fuse out of the under hood fuse box. Wait five minutes. Reinstall the fuse. Turn the key on, do not start the engine or touch the heater controls. You should hear the heat swiping through the different modes. After a couple of minutes it should stop. Turn the key off then start the vehicle. It may take several tries but eventually it should recalibrate.

2005 Silverado 2500HD 4WD - It appears that the pneumatic valve controlling the directional air flow from my heater/AC is getting stuck. When I switch the fan to front window defrost then back to...

The default configuration when all vacuum fails is to defrost vents. Most likely your vacuum supply to the switch is weak. Check the connection of the supply line to the intake manifold for damage. If no problem there, trace it to the switch on the control panel. If there is an accumulator, make sure it isn't leaking and is storing vacuum. If all this is good, look at any other vacuum lines connected to the intake manifold that may be leaking and possibly reducing the vacuum supply to the HVAC control line. Let me know if you have more questions.

The problem is in the heater box. To be more specific, the blend door. Check blend door operation and blend door motor. Located right side under dash. Remove blend door motor, with vehicle running, move switch from panel to defog and see if blend door motor moves.
