What color smoke white means coolant, blue means oil, black means burning too much gas. Who did the head gasket? Check for oil in the coolant. This could mean a bad head gasket install or a cracked block. If you have blue smoke you have worn piston rings

Sounds like oil. 1.9 SOHC engins have a head defect so most likely you need to replace the head 99% of the time. 1%of the time you need a new head gasket. The good news is that heads for these engins are not to expensive. Just check out ebay and see what I mean.
There is a two wire connector going to the fan. My first step would be to isolate the fan by disconnecting that connector and jump the fan directly to the battery. If it spins, then the fan is good and your problem is elsewhere. Next find the fuse box, there are two and their locations are in your manual. Find the fuse/relay for that fan and eyeball the fuse for defect or replace the relay with one from autozone. If that is not it, then there is a temp sensor screwed into the head which sends the signal to turn on the fan. I think you have an ecotec and my advice is based on my early 1.9 L4 experience. There are two temp sensors, make sure you are replacing the right one and note the wiring plugs are actually different on each sensor. I have seen more than one ham fisted guy plug those on backwards.
the crack is possibly in a oil pressure gally and that would by why there is pressure behind it. there is no fix and this engine is not notorious for this problem. if the engine has low miles i would just replace the cyl head.
