To remove the oil pan you have to lower the subframe
it pays about 3.5 labor hours
so if youre not experienced i would advise against DIY

I have a 2005 Saturn vue with the 2.2L engine. I have an oil leak from either the top or bottom pan. Can the lower pan be removed without removing the engine?

Definitely, assuming you're talking about the oil pan. Drain the oil, remove the pan bolts, remove old gasket and clean it. Reinstall oil pan with a new gasket and your done. Don't over tighten your pan bolts! They will snap, or damage your oil pan, especially if it's made of aluminum.

Its a 3 door don't know what series. I hit a curb about 9 months ago and never attended to it, so it leaks at about a quart every 6 weeks. Now I'm thinking of fixing it. The car runs very well, it...

If the oil pan has been damaged in any way, even a dent then I would replace both the pan and the gasket. From the sounds of things though it sounds like just the gasket would cure your issue. But to be on the safe side of things, changing both since you are already dropping the oil pan anyways would be worth it if I was doing it on my vehicle

Oil can leak of anywhere under car. You need to look at everything to determine where oil is coming from. Could be valve cover gasket, could be a seal, could be oil pan gasket, could be loose oil filter, etc. You have to look for area with wet looking oil, and start with that.

How do I replace the gasket and transmission oil in a 1998 Saturn SL1?

simply unbolt the trans pan under the trans and the oil falls to the ground... clean the pan with clean rag. get all old gasket off.. place new gasket in and bolt the pan back into place. tighten the bolts to around 7 lbs. do not over tighten the bolt, you could strip the threds. put new trans fluid in through the dip stick hole that you check the level.

Oil change on Saturn L-Series, how to?

same as any car.. climb underneath.. you'll see a pan with a bolt either on the side or the corner, unskrew that and the oil drains, then you unscrew the oil filter( cylindrical) it will be either right behind the oil pan(thing thats draining oil or on the side of your block) dip your finger in oil and coat gasket around new oil filter, screw it in where the old filter was ****DONT FORGET TO PUT THE DRAINAGE PLUG(the bolt you unscrewed) BACK IN**** then add 5 quarts drive!!

Tear in oil pan

I would say less than $200. It is just 12-14 bolts to removed, pan dropped, new gasket, reinstall and fill with oil

It is pretty straight forward. You need to drop the front portion of the exhaust, and remove the brace and torque converter dust shield. There is not a gasket. Just rtv. Honda bond works very well, about a 6mm bead all the way around.
