Question about 2002 Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

I own a 2002 saturn L100. There is a strong gas odor from the car after it is driven. I have checked the engine compartment for leaks, and have found none. I also checked at the filler neck, and as much of the tank that I could see, and found no leaks there either. There appears to be some kind of a breather at the filler, behind the splash panel. I don't know it's function. I can't pinpoint the area of the odor. Sometimes it seems at the front, sometimes the rear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run the fault codes as it indicates an EVAP system problem
small hose from the tank to under the splash section is an air breather hose to let the air out as the fuel is rushing in

SOURCE: 2002 saturn l100 A/C wont work

ok ac system has a pressure switch that stops the compressor when freon is too low. they actually say it is ok for mobile a/c systems to lose a half pound a year. most a/c systems run on under 2 pounds of freon. so after 3 or 4 years some systems will just quit working. you are at 8 to 9 years so i would recommend you find an independant shop that will top off your a/c and see if it works again. this should not cost more that 50 to 75 bucks. If you were here that is what i would charge. I am in columbus ohio just to let you know. hope this helps and thanks for using fixya

1997 Villager gas smell when outside temperatures are hot and vehicle has been driven.

A common problem with Nissan products, which this van is a Nissan Quest with Mercury trim.
There are several small rubber fuel hoses around the intake. When the air temp is cold these hoses can leak and then stop leaking when the air temp warms up.
When the air temp is cold, look around the intake with the engine running and you should see one of the hoses wet with fuel.
Just tighten the clamp.

My 2004 pontiac grand am had acheck evaporate code 0442 . I tried the first easiest part and also mine was very worn out was the fuel cap. I replaced the fuel cap with a new one. Check engine light had...

OK, P0442 is an evaporative leak fault. The gas cap may well have corrected that issue. If you smell gas from the engine area you almost certainly have a fuel leak. You should be very careful - you don't want your car to catch fire and put people's lives in danger. When a car catches fire it goes up very quickly, and if it's near your home....

Look by the fuel injectors and fuel rail for signs of a leak. If you don't see anything there have a professional technician look at it.

the first thing to do is look under the car at the plastic canister the vaper recovery system it is in the rear some times it is coverd by a sheild the vacuume hoses are bad if you smell gas and that will turn the light on it works off a pressure senser on the tank check all the hoses

Gasoline odor

Oh yes there is and there is a charcol canister up under the hood that captures the vapors if the canister is full you could smell fuel.
You will need a shop that has a SMOKE MACHINE to find the leak in the evaporative emissions plumbing from the tank to the engine compartment.
