Sounds like you have a blower motor concern
what is your experience if electrical/electronics
do you have a DVOM
can you do a volt drop
do you have a computer safe, self-powered test-light
these are just some of the things you need to have so that I can assist you in your diagnoses
otherwise we are just guessing and throwing parts
something I don't like to do

well then... the knocking sound WITH fan operation = a defective blend door

the bad news is that you have to tear the dash apart to replace

No heat

make sure your coolant level is topped off check if both radiator hoses are hot after the car is warmed up. If not remove the thermostat let it cool make sure it closes all the way then test it by heating the temp element to see if it is opening. Replace it if it is not opening and closing all the way. Check the heater hoses if they are hot both sides going into the heater core (firewall)If they are both hot there is a problem with the heater control doors. at that point you have to have the diagram for the heater box controls (cables sometimes they slip in the cable retainer and slide and dont move the door) and vaccum supply and find if you are missing vaccum or the module isnt moving the door or if the linkage failed or came disconnected from the heat cool control door

Heater blows cool in front but will blow warm in rear. we have both control levers as hot as they will go.

probably a door not working. Check under dash for which actuator controls temp. Change temp setting and see what actuator tries to move. I think it might be the electric motor, #14 below. Take the actuator off and see if door will rotate by hand. If not, you'll have to free it up--might have to take the box out and open it. If it moves OK by hand, the actuator probably has stripped gears or keyway on the drive shaft. Repair as necessary. Let us know if you get stuck or have more questions.a4f63a9.gif

NO heat in front of 2001 windstar van. Thumping

Blend air door may be stuck. I removed a pencil from a heater box before. It had fallen from the dash, down through the defrost vents and jamed the door.

2000 ford windstar heater blowing cool air

Hi, You may have an air lock in the system. Have you ever had the system flushed out? This might be the fix. Also the thermostat might need to be replaced. You didn't say if you hear the clicking noise. If you do hear the clicking noise when you adjust the tempture control then its back to the replacement of the blender motor box with broken gears.
Hope this helps Warren

A/C is on and rear heater blows full blast from vent on the sliding doors

I had the same problem and the gear box that opens and closes the valve for the water flow through the heater core was stripped. I had it replaced because it is a bear to get to. Hope this helps.
