Yes, it could be the switch behind your brake pedal.

  1. Remove the driver's side instrument panel trim panel/sound insulator.
  2. Detach the switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove the switch from the retainer by grasping it, turning the switch 90° counterclockwise, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.

The brake light switch (3) is mounted on the brake pedal support (1) and secured with a retainer (2)

To install:
  1. Insert the brake light switch into the retainer until the switch body seats on the retainer.
  2. Pull the brake pedal upward against the internal pedal stop.
  3. Turn the switch 90° clockwise in order to lock it into position.

NOTE Proper switch adjustment is achieved when no clicks are heard as the pedal is pulled upward and when the brake lights do not stay on without brake application.

  1. Attach the switch electrical connector and test the switch for proper adjustment.
  2. Adjust the brake light switch, as follows:
    1. Detach the switch electrical connector.
    2. Remove the switch from the retainer by turning it counterclockwise 45°, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.
    3. Insert the switch into the retainer until the switch bottoms out against the brake pedal and the switch actuator button is fully depressed.
    4. Snap the switch into the retainer by turning it clockwise 45° until a click is heard.
  3. Attach the switch electrical connector.
  4. Install the hush panel/sound insulator.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

SOURCE: both brakelights and rear window

The wiring for all these lights passes under the carpet on the floor of the car, on the left side - you will need to remove the carpet and inspect the entire wiring harness for damage: you have either a cut or a bad connector in it.

SOURCE: Brake lights don't work, hazard, turn, drive, and backup do

is this type that uses the indicator bulbs as brake light or the europeon type with seperate lights ??,check for feed to brake light switch first then hold down pedal and for current coming from other terminal.if its all working then check wiring connectors at back where they split to either side what you call pigs tails??if its the other type of wiring where the brake lights also use the indicators then their is some sort of relay but i havent a clue how to check that one out as when i have had american cars to import i have had to rewire to europeon standards .

No brake lights

Check the fuse in the fuse panel under the dash. Check the brakelight bulbs and see if they are good, it is unlikely the bulbs will both blow at the same time, it pays to check them. If the fuse is good, then the brakelight switch is bad under the dash,on the brake pedal. If you haven't done these repairs before, it is very tight getting under the dash to get to the brakelight switch. You may want to take it to a shop and let them do it.
I hope this has been helpful.

Neither brake light will come on when I get on brake.Changed the fuse and bulbs already. keyless device only work sometimes. Put new CR2016 batteries in. Please help!!!

suspect a bad brake light switch,on the brake pedal itself.the key need not be on when checking the brake light switch.but requires 2 people.one to insure the brake lights come on,one to push the brake. theres a switch on the brake pedal itself. look above the brake pedal pad that you push to apply the brakes. you will see a plunger that moves in and out, just to supply the current to the brakelights.if the plungers out of sync,it will not work. or it may only be stuck.or simply bad,if it moves and brake lights do not work. if the plunger works on visual inspection, and is plugged up,the switch is suspect to be bad. thank you,for choosing fixya.com!! SIMPLE SOLUTION,CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. IT MAY ONLY BE BLOWN. UNDER THE DASH ON DRIVERS SIDE CLOSEST TO YOUR LEFT FOOT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. WITH FLASHLIGHT,CHECK FOR BLOWN BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. if this fails, check for blown brakelight bulbs. unlikely that both brake light bulbs blown at once! but not unusall. thank you for choosing fixya.com!!

  1. Check the fuse make sure it is not busted and also use a designated amp only.
  2. Check the bulb and the wires also.
