Question about 1996 Dodge Ram

Belt bypass too small

Autozones belt to bypass too small. Any ideas? I have a 1994 Dodge Ram B350 Van with the 5.9L. The A/C compressor locked up and the belt routing diagram shows an optional "without a/c" routing. I bought a dealer belt and an Autozone belt (90.5"), but they were too short. It appears I need a 7-rib 92.5" belt to be able to bypass the a/c. Does anyone know if the pulleys on the waterpump, tensioner, idler, crank, or power steering would be a different size whether you had a/c or not? Additional Details - These vans were available without AC. Why spend $300+ as well as fixing all of the other a/c lines that have rusted out when according to the dealership a $30 belt is supposed to work. This van is used for our church transportation, so budget is a big issue.

I had the exact same problem. The belt specified is absolutely too small. I went with a 92" belt from Autozone and it is still working fine.

Yes, there could be an "a/c delte" pulley out there that would go where the compressor was. double check that you are routing the belt right. all other pullies are the same. maybe your diagram is wrong or you are misinterpreting. (it happens to everyone) if you still can't get it, you can wrap a peice of string around all the pullies, measure the string, and ask for that size belt.

you dont say what engine, but I dont think it can be done. At the least you will need a new bearing on the a/c pulley so the belt can run.

The A/C compressor clutch on my 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup disintegrated and now the serpentine belt won't stay on. How can I bypass this? I measured the path over the pulleys, routing around the A/C...

I would see if there is a belt specified for your car, with your engine size, etc., but without A/C. Buy that belt, and find a description of the belt path far that model.

You might be able to bypass the A/C compressor that way.

Of course, the best idea is to get the compressor repaired...

No oil pressure and knocking sound

This is a clear indication that an engine bearing has failed. Usually the cheapest way to resolve this is to find a used engine and have it installed if you feel that the van still has some usable life left in it.

Hope this helps,
Dave

Bypass ac compressor 2006 dodge ram 3500 5.9 L diesel I need to bypass stuck ac compressor

Hi:
The easiest method to do this is to go to an auto parts store and buy a belt designed for a truck with no air conditioning. The belt will be the right size, and you just install it as normal, and bypass the compressor

The bypass hose from the waterpump to the intake is leaking. It is about four inches long and is directly under the ac compressor and bracket.
