SOURCE: 1995 chevy astro van

Mine just did same (2001). Have them check the power steering pump--shaft broke in mine. This affects the brakes as well since both power brakes and power steering run off same system in Astros. Broken shaft messed up the booster system.

Very simple and no special tools. Take your time and put some rags or a oil pan underneath it and wrench away!

SOURCE: 98 Astro Van Intermittant Power to Fuel Pump Relay

I've been bitten by this twice! The culprit both times was the connector plug under the van infront of the fuel tank. the second time the connector pin and socket came loose inside the plug itself,( workes for a while then dosen't). Make sure there is good secure contact made in all sockets in this plug, and the pins are held where they need to be inside the plug itself.

My chevrolet astro lost power steering and the brakes are hard

Your van sounds like it has hydro-boost.It uses the power steering for brake boost instead of engine vacumme.More than likely you have had a power steering pump failure.

1996 astro steering and power brakes failed

some of these vans have what they call a hydra boost brake system where the master cylinder and power steering are linked so no vacuum is needed. check for a leak in the system. check all hoses and fluid levels.

The car stops and starts but there is no power steering or power brakes. 1998 Astro Van. Stripped the engine.

bad vaccum booster but replace the filter going into the booster on the hose.youm can check the filter first by taking it off the hose and shaking it,if it makes a ratteling sound it is good if not replace it.

I have a 1995 chevy astro van and the breaks and steering have lost power. The fluid's are full, and I can not detect any broken lines. What could it be?

Your van don't have the regular air (vacum) power brake booster, your has a hydraboost brake booster, which is power by your power steering pump, if power steering pump goes bad you will not have power steering or brakes, brake peddle will feel very hard and will take alot of pressure on the brake peddle to stop your van, more the likely your power steering pump is bad.

Looking for location of bcm on 97 astro van dash

The BCM is located immediately above the heater controls inside the dash on my 2004 Astro. I know it controls the headlights and locks but not gauges. Haynes says the gauge fuse supplies it power....but I'm not going to bank on that one.

97 astro brakes and steering out

if this car uses the power steering pump to help with the brakes it is possible that the pump went out or possibly the belt broke as well.
