You can't estimate brake wear with mileage, dirver style, conditions such as highway, city, hilly country, all have a different effect on brake wear, i have seen some drivers only get 15,000 miles and others over 100,000, best to get them inspected once a year and replaced when 60 to 70% worn

Maybe. How long brake pads last depends a great deal on the driver. Someone who rides around with one foot on the gas and another on the brake will wear brake pads out real fast. Other more common reasons to wear brake pads out are: a lot of stop and go city driving, waiting to the last second to brake for stop signs and stop lights, mountain terrain driving, a lot of up and down hill braking, heavily loaded driving, If you drive off with the park brake set it is damaging to your brakes. Also letting the teenagers drive your car. So, in short, there are a lot of variables in the life span of brakes. Your best bet would be to find a mechanic you can trust and have them inspect the brake pads. They should do that for little to no charge.

SOURCE: 1990 Lexus Ls 400. What tempture is my car suppose to run at?

your car should not be near that, it should stay at the middle line or a little under. You need to keep an eye on your radiator fluid level. I just changed the radiator and thermostat in my wifes car. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR IF ITS RUNNING THAT HOT, IT WILL BLOW YOUR MOTOR!!!

How many miles before oil change is needed

I drive quite a few miles in my 1998 LEXUS LS40 and have religiously changed the oil every 5,000 miles (and rotated the tires). Im pushing 185,000 miles on it now and I am due to change the timing belt a second time next weekend. That being said, I have never had any issues with the engine changing the oil at a 5,000 mile interval. I use the standard synthetic blend oil at the local quick stop type oil change places.

Under normal driving conditions, Lexus recommends not changing the fluid until 150,000 miles.

My 1992 Lexus won't start. Just replaced the battery and that helped for awhile, now it won't start. Sometimes I can fiddle with it and get it to start. But this time it acts like its dead. WHat's the...

The problem could be the contacts in the solenoid. The starters are not that expensive but to getting to it is very extensive. It is under the intake manifold. I had been having problems with my ls 400 (1990 with 275K miles) engaging the for quit some time and milked it out as long as I could.

My 1990 Lexus LS 400 stalls unexpedly (at any speed). When put in neutral, it starts up and runs fine for a few minutes then stalls again. Why?

Your fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator are not supplying constant fuel pressure. Too much or too little is causing it to kill. You can pull the vacuum line from the regulaor and check for gas. If there is none, you need a pump, it is weak.

Gluster gauge won't illuminate

Hello hayeizmyhome...Very low mileage for a 1990 model. However... this is usually around the mileage interval the dreaded instrument cluster, panel and dash light failures start...lights will flicker, then go out, gauges will start going up and down, lcd's will become hazey and hard to read....etc.
The instruments are illuminated both day and night while the ignition is on.
When the ignition is off, the panel goes dark and you can’t see the gauges at all.
The lexus has an electronic circuit board behind the inst. cluster that has been the problem. Very expensive repair if done by dealer.
*TIP* This circuit board can be repaired if you know a good electrical technician much cheaper.
The recommended timing belt replacement interval on the LS is 120k...water pump should be replaced also, the timing belt runs the water pump. The LS has a non-interference engine, meaning if the belt breaks, no damage will be done to the engine...
Hope this answers your questions..and your lexus runs for many more miles...with proper care and maintainnace, it will.

Here is the

edmunds maintenance schedule

for 150,000 miles. I would do that if you have not already done so.

Also check the top of that web page for recalls, early warning reports and technical service bulletins.
