Hello nwuggles: My name is Roger and I will help you. On a 202 engine there is only one engine used. What you need for belt replacement is do or do you not have a/c. I attached a picture of both a/c and non a/c. Just use the appropriate picture to replace your belt. Please rate the answer. Should you need further help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. The same diagram is under the hood. Look up under the hood when you open the hood if it's not mounted around the engine.

I need to know how to change the serpentine belt on a 1994 chevy cavalier

    • 1 Open the hood, and locate the auto-tensioning bolt in the center of the pulley system. This bolt will be in the center of a pulley that does not appear to be connected to any component.
    • 2 Turn the auto-tensioning bolt clockwise with a socket wrench to release tension on the belt.
    • 3 Slide the belt off the pulley system.
    • 4 Orient the new belt on the pulley system according to the belt path printed on the underside of the hood and next to the hood latch mechanism on your Cavalier. Leave slack in the belt around the tensioner pulley.
    • 5 Slide the belt over the tensioner pulley while you have the auto-tensioner pulley bolt turned clockwise as far as it will go. Make sure that the belt is sitting centered in all the various pulley grooves on the pulley system.
    • 6 Release the tension pulley bolt, and apply tension to the belt. The auto-tensioner will automatically apply the correct amount of tension on the belt.

Change a serpentine belt on a 1996 chevy cavalier

Diagram should be under the hood
The auto tensioneris down low and dificult to get to.
If it has not been changed in a while you will need a long thin push stick and a serpentine tool.
Push on the belt hard at the auto adjuster and pop the belt off the smooth pully (located top).
hook up the serpentine belt tool and then mount the new belt

Serpentine belt tensioner pulley

Hello, the Tention pully works strangely sometimes. I have a 96 taurus and had trouble myself but the tool you need should be available to rent at autozone or advanced auto for around $25. then you find the socket that fits, and you should be prying counter clockwise. Also you may visit auozone.com for further intructions, but that is what i did. Careful prying in the wrong direction as this could cause your pully spring to weaken, causing further problems.

I have a car in the shop right now same thing - it is being caused by a misfire. Need a real technition to diagnose the problem (auto zone - advance auto can't diagnose the problem - only read the code)
mine was caused by a failing fuel injector. good luck
