Question about 1998 Toyota Corolla

I recently put some things in my trunk and now the lock won't turn. And some genius decided that the back seats should not fold down. Am I screwed?

I am talking from memory,and i may be wrong........but
look under the front base of the rear seats, you should find 2x screws, undo these and lift the seat squab up and frontwards out the flat possition then you will be able to find the screws that hold the backrest in possition and remove....

I'm late with this solution... Take a long stick (broom, hockey,) and put it between the two seats, and try to reach the handle inside the trunk (emergency handle). It's good only with an empty trunk

The seats do fold down but the release latch is inside the truck, you will need to use a hanger and go behind the seat pull it back as far as you can to see the little lever that pulls up hook it then release the seat pull hanger up and then fold seat down, the release is a lever in the truck with a cable to lever arm you what to go straight to lever arm because you wont reach the handle, theres one on each seat, hope this helps, also try pushing down on the truck and then turning key at the same time that works sometimes.

Remove the seat cushion and back, they are bolted at the bottom, this will provide access to the trunk, the cushion is held in by spring clips, hit the ends of the seat with your palm to release them, this takes a really strong blow to get them to pop up/

How to get my 94 geo prizms back seats to fold down

old post but is a tricky feature, never posted here.

prizm = toy corolla.
so the operators guide is more easy to find.
4 0 million corolla's made, a world record.
and means facts on it not rare.
page 16 covers this, and has a special switch there,
to prevent what you are attempting.
per this drawing.

22020842-5jivdbcvwbjyt0yxwjt3tz1t-1-0.jpg "This system deactivates the lock release
lever so that things locked in the
trunk can be protected.
1. Push down the security lock levers
to lock the rear seatbacks.
On vehicles with built-in child restraint,
only the left seatback has a lock lever and
can be lowered. The right seatback cannot
be folded down.
After locking the rear seatbacks, try folding
them down to make sure they are securely
locked, otherwise, someone could
get into the trunk by folding down a rear
seat."

so if your car has this feature. and is ENABLED>
only locksmith can help you.
drive there and get it cured.
easy no?

now page 16b, with out this feature.

so we cant really answer, as we dont really know which car you have option wise. but i answered you, both ways.

Can't open trunk using the inside lever, key or button. Any suggerstions as got perishable food stuck in there. Thanks

If your Grand Am has the split rear folding seat, you can try folding the seat down but using a wire coat hanger. Try to snake the coat hanger through the split in the seat and hook the strap to pull it to be able to fold the seat down to gain access to the trunk. http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=17492&d=1121049659

As for the trunk being locked. Is it possible the remote lockout was activated? Try a yard stick to slide the red switch or just crawl in after you folded the seat down and removed all the food. If it's engaged, the remote solenoid will still activate (you can hear it), but the trunk won't open remotely.

Good luck and keep us posted. Thank you for using fixya

KEYS LOCKED IN TRUNK

Dont the back seats fold down in this model, if you can somehow get into passenger compartment fold down seat or just remove the bottom seat by lifting each side up about a foot from the end with your hand or a wide prying tool or some models may have a screw holding the base seat down on each side, once bottome is removed then you can find the screws on each side holding the back part to the panel. remove them and lift back up.. should have access holes to reach into trunk, good luck..

I can no longer open my trunk on my vehicle. help! it's been almost 11 months since i've been able to open the trunk and i've been dealing with it but now my break light is out and the only way i can...

If there is a recall, your local Ford dealer should fix it for free. Call them and ask. I searched the government website (safercar.gov) and the only latch-related recall I found was for the rear passenger doors of 4 and 5 door sedans. I did not find anything about the trunk latch.

Is the problem that you can not get the key to turn in the lock, or will the trunk not release when the key is turned? I assume you have also tried the inside release (if there is one)?

If you can't get the key to turn the lock, have you tried putting graphite (lock lubricant) into the lock? You can buy this at any hardware store.

Trunk wont open and the back seat wont fold down on our kia optim

By switching the lever you locked the inside trunk release, you will need to put lever back. as far as the trunk you may need to remove the rear seat, pop lower part out and then remove the bolts to the top half of the seat then try to reach the lever so it will open from the inside. i've found that many of these cars with the pop lever inside have sticking trunk locks from not being used, what you do first is spary lock good, with wd40 or pb blaster then slide key in and out and try to turn this may take a whhile but it works then tumbler will free up, you just have to keep spraying inside lock and working the key.

My trunk won't open

should be a button or lever or pull tab somewhere along the top of your back seats that allow them to fold down..... and your trunk should have an emergency release lever inside the trunk

2005 ford focus need to fold back seats down.

Remove back seat ,bottom first push seat in the middle with both hands ,lift after you have pushed on seat this releases the catch.remove the top part of the seat you will need to remove 2 screws lift srtaight up the seat will come out ,now you will see sound deadning material ,remove ,carefull not to tear, with flash lite look at inside of trunk lock area ,you will see a slot on the latch ,use regular flat screw driver to insert into slot just turn right ,left the trunk will open .you can take out trunk lock cylender out and any lock repair shop can re key the lock by looking at the tumblers inside the cylender.Good luck I know this will work ,sounds like a lot of work but not realy.

My rear folding seats wont fold down to allow me access to my trunk. i know they lock, but my owners manual is locked in the trunk and i do not know how to unlock the folding seats.

When you open the trunk, there should be a knob at the top right of the opening. Pull that and it will unlock the locking mechanism for the rear seats. I just recently figured that one out myself!

2003 Toyota Corolla LE back seat fold down? how?!

Open the back trunk, look near the top of the trunk, and pull the two black levers. They have a seat folding down symbol. That will release the locks to fold the back seat down.
