Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier
The fuel pump is located inside of the fuel tank on that vehicle, and the fuel tank must be dropped down from the vehicle to replace the fuel pump.
The biggest thing to consider when obtaining a used part from a wrecking yard is the longevity of that part, and the amount of difficulty in replacing that part, and an electrical part that has been used before is in no way going to be guaranteed to work for even a short period of time, so you must ask yourself two things when obtaining a part from a wrecking yard, and they are 1. How long does that part usually last before it wears out, and 2. how much trouble is it to actually replace or install that part. You would not want to replace that fuel pump only to have to do all over again a month or two from now. Usually you do not want to put that kind of a part into your vehicle from a wrecking yard because half of the time you will be having to do it again very soon, and it really does not matter if that part is not a big deal to replace or install, but when it is a 6 hour job to install the part you would not want to see it fail within 6 days and then have to replace the part all over again. If you do get a defective pump from the wrecking yard, or if the fuel pump does fail within the warranty period then the wrecking yard will only replace it with another used fuel pump. I would strongly suggest a new fuel pump for your vehicle.

Testimonial: "thanks for the info...makes sense!"
The pumps at junk yard are sitting and sometimes for long periods of time and the fuel dry up and varinsihes the pump then the pump wont work or leak down after shut off. this job the tank must be dropped i would not want to take a change of doing the work and then the pump is bad, a new one is expensive and times are tough so do what you can i hope this is helpful good luck.
