No voltage to fuel pump or eec relays 1988 e150 van 5.0 died while driving put new starter and solenoid in about two months ago any ideas

I'm not positive the wiring is the same for trucks and vans, but you should have a yellow wire for both relays that go to a fuseable link off the starter solenoid. The key switch powers the EEC relay on, and the computer grounds the fuel pump relay on.
You may want to check the fuseable links and power coming from the key switch.

2000 Cavalier 2.2: Put in new starter. 2 days & it

The battery and alternator may have been ok.
You have a fuse or fuseable link between the alternator and battery to protect it. If you have battery voltage at the battery post and not at the alternator post, there is a break in that circuit.
If the battery cable goes to the starter, the alternator wire may go from there and that could be where the fuseable link is.
Fuseable links are special thin wires that act like fuses.

Blowing fuseable links from starter to alt, (well one) the gage is smaller then the OEM, however would a bad starter cause this fuseable link to fail, as the altenater is brand new

If this link runs from the alternator to the starter then i would say it likely but i belive the connection is to recarge the battery, the link that runs from the alt to starter connects to starter with another cable that runs to battery, so this link is used to charge the battery, heres a wiring diagram to show you. i would say its morelikely that the problem may be a bad alternator or the wiring from alt to starter is shorting. follow the wire (fuseable link) from alternator to starter and check it for shorting onto something, if nothing found then iwould say its the alternator or starter. to make sure which is the problem, when the link pops can you start the car, will starter spin over the engine if the answer is yes then replace the starter but if the starter doesnt spin engine with blown link then replace the starter, here are the wiring diagram to help.johnjohn2_148.gifjohnjohn2_149.gif

LETS SEE BATTERY GOOD! STARTER GOOD? BATTERY CABLES GOOD? CONNECTION FROM THE BATTERY GOOD! CONNECTION FROM THE STARTER TO THE BATTERY GOOD!
WIRE FROM THE STARTER TO THE IGNITION SWITCH GOOD???
IN THIS WIRE THERE IS A FUSEABLE LINK CHECK IT
IF YOU CAN SHORT THE SOLINOID OUT ON THE STARTER AND THE CAR TURNS OVER THE FUSEABLE LINK IS BAD
IF EVERYTHING IS GOOD CHECK TO SEE IF THE MOTOR IS GOOD

1985 Chevrolet S10 electrical issue

check the FUSEABLE LINKS AT THE STARTER
on the big stud you will have about 3 wires they are the( FUSEABLE LINKS) plus the main battery cable
check thoses 3 wires they are most likely the problem
to check them SLIGHTLY PULL ON THE WIRE it will most likely streach and pull apart or there will be BLACK plastic juntions that the wire goes into pull the wire from there
to repair cut the wire pass the BLACK juntions
get NEW FUSEABLE LINK WIRE
USE ONLY HEAT SHRINK **** CONNECTORS tape the wire together
reconnect the 3 wire to the starter
hope this helps

Main fuse

I don't believe there is a main fuse.Chevy uses fuseable link wire that come off the starter. They are like fuses, but they are wires that are made to burn if overloaded.Pull lightly on the wires coming off the starter & see if one or more stretch. This indicates a burnt fuseable link. You can buy fuseable link wire at Auto Zone cheap.Good luck,

Fuseable link

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

In most Japanese brands, the fusible link is the short wire right after the battery that goes to a connector. Often, the battery + terminal has 2 wires; 1 very big that goes to the starter and another the feeds the fusebox. This 2nd wire from the + terminal is the fusible link.

Often fault with the fusible link is a corroded or burned connector/pin.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
