Check engine light is on, and the transmission will only go into second and third, and the key will not come out of the ignition. HELP. Vehicle has 46,000 miles on it, and all these things have happened in the last week.

-   all gauges on my dash are dead with frequent jumps almost like voltage spikes. Tranny will hesitate to take off and will only go to 3rd gear at 60mph the rpm's were at 3000 rpm and also my key will not come out of the ignition.-   d14_lopez

If the vehicle will not shift into park, the key will not come out. Problem in the linkage to the transmission first and then check for codes to indicate which system for the check engine light.
