Question about 2003 Lexus ES 300

1 Answer

Clicking noise in my 2003 Lexus ES 300 when I turn corners. The vehicle has 60,000 miles and, aside from this, is in mint condition. A mechanic at the service station told me it was the "intermediate steering shaft" and should cost about $450 - $500 to fix. Is this problem common in the Lexus? If this is, in fact, the problem can it precipitate other problems if not fixed immediately? Anyway to avoid? Does this cost sound reasonable to fix the problem?

Yes this is more than likely the problem. And not too bad as far as price goes. You do not have to fix it immediately. But it will steadily get worse. If it just started making the clicking sound then you have a while until it turns into a serious problem.

2003 Lexus ES 300 the A/C light flashes and no cooling

The flashing light tells you there is a problem in the system.
A mechanic would check to see if the system is charged with freon then check the electrical circuit for the compressor.

When should the timing belt be replaced? Should the water pump be replaced at the same time?

60,000 miles is recommended by Toyota/Lexus. Replacing the water pump is recommended because its driven by the timing belt. If not replaced and it fails in the future, you would have to re-do everything again!!

I suspect a weak battery, but how do I know it's not a bad ALT?

when your car is running disconnect the positive cord from the battery. if the car stays on, than it is your alternator, if not its your battery. also if the car stays on, the head lights go dim if the alternator is malfunctioning
