Question about 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Stalling occassionally My wife's car has been stalling occasionally. Once it would not start yet the motor was turning. I believe I need to change the fuel filter. Where is it? Also when ordering a new filter they tell me I need a chassis number. Where can I find it?

Car will just stop accelerating while driving on the highway and eventually turn off. On cold starts, many times it will crank up to only turn off after 45 seconds of being turn on. After re trying to turn it on it finally stays turned on.

check engine light is on, and the dealer keeps reset the lights saying they don't see a problem

Wait Bill before you order anything ok. What exactly is the vehicle doing? Stalling ok. does it restart right away? Is there a check engine light on. The ML has had a fuel filter modication . The new fuel filter is larger. If you have the old style small one you will need to do the Modifications. 3 lines and a tie wrap and possibly the fuel pump . Do you really want to just start replacing things?

96 Buick Century stalls....

I spent endless time on this same problem on my 1992 Wagon. I changed out the computer but no help. It turned out to be the top dead center crank sensor that tells the system when the crank passes TDC. It is a small magnet essentially about the siz of a pencil eraser in the flywheel. it was cracked and occasionally would not "sense" and the car would just quit. troubleshooting was a nightmare because the computer diagnostics on the 1992 are less capable than the 1996 model. Anyway that is a relatively inexpensive fix and easy to know if it worked. Let me know how you solve this.

Has the fuel filter been chg. lately. If it has, maybe a fuel pressure test is in order. Fuel pump might be geeting weak and does not show up until it gets warmed up. Fuel pumps are a common problem on this type of cars.

you should change the crankshaft position sensor this is the only thing i could think of that would cause this type of no start intermittently, when you come back 5-10 minutes later does it fire right up or is it an extended crank time? either way i believe that very well could be your problem and i would have never changed a perfectly good mass airflow meter for a problem like this,,please rate good luck -jeff
